1 Prayer Service A Thursday, June 14 8:30 a.m. Prelude *Greeting The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. The risen Christ is with us. Praise the Lord. *Opening Hymn For the Beauty of the Earth Stanzas 1, 2, 4, 6 *Opening Prayer Let us pray: Almighty God, To you all hearts are open, all desires known, And from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts By the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, That we may perfectly love you, And worthily magnify your holy name, Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Scripture Readings: Luke 22:19-27, 1 Corinthians 10:15-17 Sermon I Have Called You by Name, You Are Mine Donna Parramore A Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition Let us join our voices together in reciting this prayer, as kin with one another And members of God s family: I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee, Exalted for thee or brought low by thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things To thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, Let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.

2 Invitation, Confession, and Pardon *The Peace Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, Who earnestly repent of their sin And seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another Through this responsive prayer: Gracious God, we gather today like the psalmist Declaring that we believe that we have walked in integrity. We also believe that we have walked in faithfulness, avoided hypocrites, And shunned the company of evildoers. We declare to you all of the good things That we remember doing and saying and believing all week. But, just in case our level of integrity is not the same as yours, We, like the psalmist, say, Prove us. Place your steadfast love before us again and again and again Until we walk in faithfulness to you. Allow us to sit in your presence, until we soak up your character And reflect your glory to the world. Prove us. Try us. Test our hearts and minds until our faith is able to stand surefooted on solid ground. Then, prove us again and again and again until you are satisfied. Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; That proves God s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! ALL: Glory to God. Amen. Let us offer one another signs of reconciliation and love. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING God be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.

3 Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise....therefore, with your people in all ages, in communion with the saints, And with the whole company of heaven, We join the glad song of unceasing praise: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord....Therefore, remembering Christ s life of ministry and service, his suffering, death and resurrection, his ascending to glory and his abiding presence through the power of your Holy Spirit, we come in praise and thanksgiving with these gifts of your love, as we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again....through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory and blessing is yours, Almighty God, now and forever. Amen, amen, amen. The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, Forever. Amen.
