2 WELCOME Welcome to First United Methodist Church; we are delighted that you have chosen to worship with us this morning. Founded in 1821, First Church is the oldest Protestant church in the area and the oldest Methodist church in Florida. This historic church, with four Sunday services, has a membership of 3200 and is overflowing with life. We hope that you will consider becoming a member of our church family. You may join any Sunday by profession of faith or transfer of membership. Come and be a part of what God is doing here. VISITOR/NEW MEMBER CLASS We welcome all visitors and new members that are interested in learning more about First Church to an introductory class that consists of four parts. The class will assemble at 9:30am in room PH101 next door in the Perry Home. Today s class, Tour of First Church, will walk you through the historic buildings of our campus. There will not be a Visitor/New Member Class next Sunday. The class will resume on December 6th with Introduction to First Church. We hope you join us each week. NURSERY and CHILDREN S BULLETINS Nursery is available this morning for children up to five years old. If you need help locating the nursery, please see an usher or greeter for assistance. Also, children s worship bulletins and crayons are available in the narthex. FLOWERS The flowers in the Sanctuary today are given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Horace Shumpert by Berta and family. THE GROWING SEASON UPDATE As of November 20th, we received 469 Estimate of Giving cards totaling $1,759,752 for Our approximate budget for 2016 is $2,200,000. If you haven t turned in your Estimate of Giving Card, please consider doing so today. Estimate of Giving Cards are available in the pews, in the church office, and online at FUMCPensacola. Anne Krentz Organ LECTIONARY SCRIPTURES Psalm: 132 David has made a promise to find a dwelling place for the Ark of the Covenant. Now that promise has been fulfilled and God promises an everlasting reign. First Lesson: 2 Samuel 23:1-7 David provides his final testimony. He proclaims that one who rules justly is blessed by God. Second Lesson: Revelation 1:4b-8 John s salutation to the churches begins with a blessing in the name of God. He praises the Christ who has promise an everlasting realm to all who are saved, and calls them to watch for the return of the Lord. Gospel Lesson: John 18:33-37 Pilate conducts his first questioning of Jesus. Upon inquiring if he is the King of the Jews, Jesus proclaims that his reign is in a different place into which are invited all those who bear witness to the truth.

6 ANNOUNCEMENTS Wednesday Night Dinner & Activities We will not have our normal Wednesday activities this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Join us next Wednesday, December 2nd, as we start a fun series of Wednesday Advent activities. Our first event will be Preparing the Way: An Introduction to Advent. This will be after dinner at 6:00pm in Wesley Abbey. We hope to see you next Wednesday night. Great Day of Giving Food Drive November All members of the church are asked to join us for our annual food drive for the Great Day of Giving. Donations are divided by age levels. Adults are asked to bring instant oatmeal and pancake mix (add water kind). Youth (7th-12th grade) are asked to bring boxes of crackers and jars of peanut butter. 5th and 6th graders are asked to bring boxes/bags of pasta and jars of spaghetti sauce. 4th Grade can bring fruit snacks (rollups/gummies). 3rd Grade is asked for chili (3 Cans). 2nd Grade is asked to bring soup (3 cans). 1st Grade can bring rice (3 bags). Kindergarten is asked for mac n cheese (3 boxes), and Preschool is asked to bring canned veggies and fruit. We hope to get at least 75 of each item. Food items can be dropped off in our collection boxes located in the front office, Perry Home, and Education Building anytime before December 3rd. Food boxes will be assembled by church members at our annual Great Day of Giving event on Sunday, December 6th. Artist of the Month: Valerie Aune Our new Artist of the Month is Valerie Aune. Her exhibit Studio Confetti will be on display in The Wright Place through December 28th. The gallery is filled with an eclectic collection of canvases, Oils, Acrylic, Mixed Media and Encaustics, Abstracts to Realism. Stop by to see her art on display in The Art Space at The Wright Place. Community Thanksgiving Service Tuesday, November 24 th Join clergy and other religious leaders from the Pensacola community in a service of Thanksgiving for the bounty of God s grace and for the freedoms we share. This year s service will be on Tuesday, November 24th, at 6:30pm at Christ Episcopal Church. Please bring a canned food item for Manna Food Bank. This service is in cooperation with Temple Beth-El, First United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church, and Christ Church. Advent at FUMC November 29 th December 24 th The first Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 29th, marks the beginning of the new church year and the Advent season. Advent is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the birth of Jesus. There is a lot going on at First Church during Advent. Special Advent/Christmas calendars are available to pick-up this morning. Take some and share them with your family and friends. Let s make this a special Advent season for our congregation. Preparing the Way: An Introduction to Advent Service Join us each Wednesday night this Advent season as we share in some special activities. On the first Wednesday in Advent, December 2nd, we will learn and worship with Preparing the Way. Everyone is invited to this family-friendly service for all ages, featuring a drama designed to introduce and prepare us for the Advent season. Holiday Office Hours The Church Office will have adjusted office hours for Thanksgiving week. The office will close at 12 noon on Wednesday, November 25th. The office will be closed all day Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) and Friday. Normal office hours will resume on Monday, November 30th. What Are You Thankful For?
