2 January 1, 2017 Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Luke 2:19 Mary is the perfect role model for living a stewardship lifestyle. She listened to God and said yes to His invitation to be the Holy Mother of His son. She also trusted in the God s providence on a daily basis. As we start a new year, take time every day to listen to how God is calling you; trust that He has a better plan for you than you could ever imagine. MARY IS A MARVELOUS EXAMPLE TO US IN HER GRATITUDE TO GOD AND HIS PLAN FOR HER LIFE! WE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT GRATITUDE IS A QUALITY OF HUMILITY. WE NEED TO LOSE OUR SELFISHNESS AND, PER- HAPS, SOME SENSE OF CONTROL. WE NEED TO BECOME HUMBLE. REMEMBER--HUMILITY DOES NOT FOCUS ON ONESELF--RATHER, IT FOCUSES UPON THE UL- TIMATE. THE ULTIMATE IS THAT GOD--IS GOD, AND HE GIVES US EVERYTHING WE HAVE. ONLY THEN DO WE REALIZE WE DON'T NEED ANYTHING MORE BECAUSE WE AL- READY HAVE SO MUCH. NOW! THE BLESSING WE RECEIVE The blessing we experience in Christ Jesus is proclaimed in Numbers as the special blessing for the people of Israel. They and we are to be blessed by the invocation of God s loving kindness, the shining glory of God s face turned toward us in love, not away from us in anger. We are blessed by God s own peace! Our wish and our hope are fulfilled in this blessing, which is made visible in the coming of Jesus. We want to thank everyone who bought raffle tickets. The raffle gained $ to help the needy of Effingham County. Thank You The Outreach Assistance Office would like to thank everyone for their generosity during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. Through your love and gifts we were able to give 32 Thanksgiving food baskets with pies, and 39 food baskets and pies for Christmas. We helped 202 people during Christmas, with 39 boys and 40 girls Christmas gifts. A special thanks to Charlie and Nancy Miller who donated all the pies for both Thanksgiving and Christmas; to all those who volunteered to help put together the baskets and to those who helped give out the baskets and the gifts. We are blessed beyond words and give thanks each day for all of you. Faith Formation News Classes resume January 8 Faith Formation classes will not meet on Christmas Day or New Year s Day. Class will resume on January 8, 2017, with prayer check for second grade, Safe Touch for eighth grade and penance for fifth grade. This training is required for Safe Environment Compliance for any adult who will come into contact with youth as part of their ministry (a listing of those ministries can be found at and must be completed before they begin ministry. We also invite adults who are not currently volunteers to attend this training to learn tools they can use to help keep children safe.
