2 Notices The Precentor is preaching and presiding at Felpham Parish Church this morning. Chancellor s Lectures 2015: From my Prison Cell Reflections in captivity on life, faith and death : This series of lectures given by the Cathedral Chancellor, Canon Dr Anthony Cane, will show how prison writing provides a moving and thought-provoking witness to the dignity of humankind in difficult circumstances, and how mental and spiritual freedom can survive and even flourish in situations of harsh physical captivity. The life, death and writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer were the initial inspiration for the lectures, but the whole genre of prison writing will be explored, with examples from (amongst others) Thomas More, John Bunyan, Oscar Wilde, Anne Frank and most recently from the kidnapped aid worker Kayla Muella. Thursdays 23 rd & 30 th April, 14 th & 21 st May at 6.30pm (with the exception of 14 th May which will start at 6.45pm) in the Cathedral Nave. Free entry. All are welcome. Christian Aid May Market is to be held on Friday 1 st May from 10am - 12pm in the Assembly Rooms, North Street. The Cathedral is responsible for the book stall and we would be grateful for any contributions of good quality paperbacks and nonfiction to be handed in this week, either to the Cathedral Offices or to Julie Schofield at 4 Vicars Close. End of Life Issues Seminar: Recently the Cathedral Fellowship invited a member of the Congregation, a former Judge, to talk about the legal aspects of assisted dying and the current situation. The meeting attracted a record attendance. The Adult Christian Learning Committee has presented two seminars on some of the ethical issues of our time. Now we are planning a third on End of Life Issues. The three keynote speakers will talk about palliative care of the dying, pastoral care for them and their relatives and carers, and the theological and ethical issues which must be considered to inform the debate. The speakers will be joined by our own Brenda Couzens, a former hospice Chaplain, and Robin Barratt, our judge, in a panel discussion at the end of the seminar. The date is Saturday 4 th July starting at 9.30am. Make a note in your diary now. Richard Ashby Information Desk Team Leader: After several years of invaluable service Miss Audrey Scott will be stepping down from the role of Information Desk Team Leader at the end of April. The Dean and Chapter, and Ruth Poyner, Visitor Services Officer, are hugely grateful to Audrey for her unwavering dedication to the role and for looking after the Information Desk team with such care. There will be a thank you presentation to Audrey in the South Transept after the 11am Eucharist service this morning. All are welcome. Having now held a round of interviews, Chapter are delighted to announce that Audrey will be succeeded by Mrs Annabelle Hancock who will take up the post on Monday 27 th April.

If your children would like to join the group please ask a steward for more information. Parents are welcome too! Toy bags are also available during the service. Local Events The Community Committee have compiled a list of local events that might be of interest to the Cathedral Community. This list is available in Reception and also on the Cathedral website, in the About Us section, on the Cathedral Community Downloads page. The forum will include the candidates for the Chichester Constituency: Andrew Tyrie (Conservative), Jasper Richmond (Green Party), Mark Farwell (Labour), Andrew Smith (Liberal Democrat), Andrew Moncrieff (UK Independence Party). Please send questions in by Wednesday 29 th April to deansec@chichestercathedral.org.uk or leave in the Cathedral Office, addressed to the Dean s Secretary.
