For 40 years, CCHD has funded community groups that seek justice and create lasting change. Fight poverty in America. Defend human dignity. Give to the CCHD Collection. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services. Your prayers and support are truly a blessing. As Catholics in a worldwide faith community, we treasure our belief that we may be continually transformed by participation in the sacraments. The Archbishop, clergy and staff of the Archdiocese thank everyone for sharing the mission through your prayerful and generous support.

12 November 17th 2013 The Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time 12 Respect Life News Spiritual Adoption Program Dear Jesus, child of Mary, I love you and thank you for your unconditional love. I plead with you to save the life of, the unborn child whom I have spiritually adopted and whose life is threatened by abortion. May this child be allowed to grow in wisdom, age and strength in Your presence and in the sight of all. Amen Month Two Developing Baby Your baby is making progress developing all of his/her external features and internal organs. His/her brain is functioning at 40 days. His/her mother can hear his/her heartbeat now on an ultrasonic stethoscope. Milk-teeth buds are present at 6 ½ weeks. And it has been reported that a two-month old baby can suck his/her thumb. From this moment, your spiritually adopted baby grows and refines his/her body. But everything he/she needs to survive once he/she is born is already present by the end of the eighth week. NATIONAL NIGHT OF PRAYER FOR LIFE Sunday, December 8, p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Chapel On Sunday, December 8, 2013, our parish will participate in the National Night of Prayer for Life. The purpose is to unite our prayers with Catholics throughout the country in an effort to turn hearts towards Christ, thus bringing an end to abortion and the destruction it causes to all those involved. The hours are chosen to coincide with Our Lady of Guadalupe s appearance to Juan Diego. Each hour will include formal prayer as a group and silent meditation. We will conclude with Benediction at 1 a.m. Please Come Pray With Us! Since 1844 the members of the Apostleship of Prayer have offered themselves to God for the salvation of souls, the Church, the intentions of all Apostles of Prayer, and the intentions of the Pope. The Holy Father gives us two prayer intentions each month, one a general intention and the other an intention for world missions. Please join the millions worldwide who pray each day for the monthly prayer intentions of the Pope. DAILY OFFERING PRAYER God, our Father, I offer You my day. I offer You my prayers, thoughts, words, actions, joys, and sufferings in union with Your Son Jesus' Heart, who continues to offer Himself in the Eucharist for the salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit, who guided Jesus, be my guide and my strength today so that I may witness to Your love. With Mary, the mother of our Lord and of the Church, I pray especially for this month's intentions as proposed by the Holy Father. Amen. NOVEMBER Suffering Priests. That priests who experience difficulties may find comfort in their suffering, support in their doubts, and confirmation in their fidelity. Latin American Churches. That as fruit of the continental mission, Latin American Churches may send missionaries to other Churches.

14 IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER The IRA charitable rollover was revived in the American Taxpayer Relief Act of What's called a rollover is actually a qualified charitable distribution" that can be made to St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church. Here's how to do it: 1. If you are at least 70 years old on the date you make your gift. 2. If your IRA is a traditional or Roth. 3. If you don't exceed your personal maximum of $100,000 per year in qualified charitable distributions. You will not have to report your distribution as income. It will be free of federal and New York State income tax, and it will count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). The best way for you to start is with your IRA custodian. Tell them you want to make a "qualified charitable distribution." In most cases you will only have to fill out a simple form. Your gift must go directly from your IRA to the Parish. If you receive the money first then you'll be taxed on it like any other distribution. Example: Mrs. Connors, age 76, has $125,000 in a traditional IRA and would like to contribute $5,000 to St. Matthew's Church. Upon hearing of the Charitable IRA Rollover opportunity, she directs the custodian of her IRA to transfer this amount not later than December 31, 2013 directly to the Parish as a 2013 gift. She will not be subject to income tax on her $5,000 qualified charitable distribution. This information is not intended and should not be construed as legal, tax or investment advice. For such advice, please consult an attorney, tax advisor or investment professional. November 17th 2013 The Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time 14 Remembering Our Parish Want a great way to remember St. Matthew's Church? You can, by naming St. Matthew's directly in your will or living trust. A gift to us in your will or trust affirms your everlasting commitment to the Parish's life and works. You can instruct your attorney to use this wording: I hereby give, devise and bequeath to St. Matthew R.C. Church, with offices at 35N Service Road, Dix Hills NY the sum of $ to be used for its most urgent needs. As an alternative, you can make a gift of what remains in your estate or living trust after all other bequests and expenses have been paid: I hereby give, devise and bequeath to St. Matthew R. C. Church, with offices at, 35N Service Road, Dix Hills NY 11746, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate (trust) to be used for its most urgent needs. For more information about remembering St Matthew's in your will or living trust, contact Dolores Tiernan x113. Do You Receive Collection Envelopes? If you are not using Automated Giving for your weekly collection, and you would like to receive parish collection envelopes, please contact Bettyanne Russo x126 or bettyanne@smrcc.org.
