PROCLAIM THE RISEN CHRIST On Easter morning everything the spring weather, the flowers, birds and butterflies, the people around us in their finery, the beautiful liturgy and music everything seems to bear witness that Jesus Christ is risen today! Like the eyewitness accounts in today s scriptures, the glorious and joyful life all around us helps us to believe the good news of the Resurrection and sing Alleluia! In the scriptures today we hear from Peter and Paul and John. All three speak with conviction about witnessing the resurrected Christ. John s Gospel account includes Mary of Magdala, who also was privileged to witness the Resurrection and tell others the good news. On this glorious Easter Sunday can we ourselves give eyewitness accounts that Jesus Christ is risen today, alive and active in our lives? Copyright J. S. MARRIAGE & FAMILY LIFE The "Marriage: Unique for a Reason" website is part of the Bishops' ongoing efforts to promote and defend marriage as the union of one man and one woman. It offers many educational resources for Catholics and others who want to better understand and articulate the Church's teaching on marriage. The website currently features five video resources: Made for Each Other, Made for Life, Made for Freedom, Made for the Common Good, and El Matrimonio: Hecho para el amor y vida (in Spanish with English subtitles), as well as FAQs about marriage, a library of Church teaching, and a regularly updated blog. EASTER PEOPLE We are Easter people and Alleluia is our song! St. Augustine Readings for Sunday, April 8: First Reading The community of believers was of one heart and mind (Acts 4:32-35). Psalm Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting (Psalm 118). Second Reading Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God (1 John 5:1-6). Gospel The risen Christ comes to his disciples with peace and the Spirit. (John 20:19-31). Today at Mass we will sing Alleluia for the first time since Lent began and we will see fresh flowers and colors of white and gold. I wonder why we use these colors and fresh flowers for Easter Time. SMM SCHOOL & PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION PROGRAMS April SMM students have stored up many treasure for heaven throughout their Lenten journey. May those treasures bring them bring them Christ's abundant love during the Easter season! SMM SCHOOL COUGAR NEWS Thank you so much to all who donated to our BoosterThon and attended our FunRun. We raised over $6000 for new playground equipment. School will be closed April 2nd-6th for Easter break. Registration continues for grades PK3 through 6th (Pk2 and 7th are closed). Call for a private tour. ADULT FAITH FORMATION TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The Paschal Mystery is the key to our Christian faith: the dying and rising of Jesus that is the pattern of our life. In their first steps on the road of faith, the catechumens feel the cross of glory traced over their eyes, on their lips, across their shoulders, on their ears, over their heart, and on their feet. The mystery is that even death gives way to life for those who are held in the embrace of Jesus. Today, many new Christians arise from the waters of the font. Yet the font is not the destination of their journey. The goal is Pentecost, fifty days from now, and a lifetime of praise to the Father, in Christ, in the embrace of the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the world. Neophyte, our ancient word for newly-baptized people, means newly -planted in Greek. If someone in your parish has just been baptized, welcome them today. ADULT CONFIRMATION PROGRAM SMM will conduct classes for adult Catholics (18 & over) who wish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, April 10-May 15, from 7:00-8:00PM. The celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for adult Catholics will be held at the St. Louis Cathedral on Pentecost Sunday, May 20 at 3:00 PM. PRE-Registration is required. Please call by Wed. April 4. PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL The Parish Pastoral Council will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:00 PM in the Convent Bldg. Meetings are open to all parishioners, however, parishioners who wish to address the Council must submit, in writing, the topic of discussion along with their name and telephone number.
