UPON THIS ROCK CAPITAL CAMPAIGN All parishioners are asked to prayerfully consider supporting our building program through a pledge to our Upon this Rock Capital Campaign. Now that our new church is built, we still have capital needs to pay off the debt for the church and to expand the parish center for much needed office, classroom and meeting space. 6

MEMORIALS AND HONORARIUMS PROGRAM In 2011 we launched a Memorial and Honorarium Program. All memorials and honorariums committed to prior to January 31, 2013 will be included on the granite honorarium and memorial wall in the narthex of the church to be installed in the spring of A memorial or an honorarium is a monetary gift given to offset the cost of a needed item for our new Church. The gift can be given by an individual, a family or a ministry to memorialize or honor a loved one, your family, a departed friend, or give thanks for blessings received. How does our Memorial and Honorarium Program work? The pages that follow outline the remaining items available to memorialize. You may select any item(s) to apply your donation towards. In the event that the item you have selected has been sold or oversubscribed you will be contacted. If you do not wish to specify an item, your gift will be applied toward those items most needed. The value assigned to each opportunity is relative to the items value, rather than reflecting any actual cost to purchase or refurbish. Once donated the memorial or honorarium article becomes the property of the parish. Special consideration to those who have given in the capital campaigns: To recognize your prior sacrificial gift, participants in the capital campaigns will be given a 25% discount off the listed values of all items in the Memorial and Honorarium Program. To apply this discount your pledge payments should be up-to-date. How will your gift be acknowledged? Memorials and honorariums will be recognized in two ways: The permanent acknowledgement will be on etched granite depicting the name of those being honored or memorialized. Thus those honored will always be remembered in the prayers of our community. A thank you letter, signed by our pastor, will be issued to each donor acknowledging their gift. If the gift is in honor of someone outside the immediate family, a letter will also be issued to the person being honored or to their relatives. How can you participate in this program? A Memorial and Honorarium Commitment Form is located in the back of this brochure for your use. Please use this form to ensure proper accounting and guarantees your donation will be applied as you desire. Make checks payable to St. John the Apostle Memorial and Honorarium Fund. Questions? Please speak with Ken Tschida in St. John s office ( ). Will these gifts be tax deductible? Yes, but consult your tax advisor for your specific situation. Gifts will be recorded with your yearly contribution on the parish records and will be reported to you in the yearly church mailing. Payment options can be arranged. 7

SHRINES Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, and Sacred Heart Shrines: These shrines were originally commissioned for Sacred Heart Church in Vailsburg, NJ. Blessed Virgin Mary- The statue is situated in a gold mosaic and carved arch of purest white carrara marble, the shrine is located prominently just to the left of the sanctuary. St. Joseph The statue is situated in a gold mosaic and carved arch of purest white carrara marble, the shrine is located prominently just to the right of the sanctuary. Sacred Heart Originally in the niche of the Reredos, the Sacred Heart statue has been placed in the transept opposite the Baptistry. Marble pedestal containing a large carved relief of the Angel Gabriel and Mary depicting the Annunciation. Marble pedestal containing a large carved relief of the death of St. Joseph surrounded by Jesus, Mary, and an Angel. Pedestal is from Sacred Heart reconfigured with a marble inlay. Railings are from Conception Church in Johnstown, PA. Blesseds Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul the Great: The carrara marble statues were commissioned to replicate the design of the BVM and St. Joseph Shrines near the sanctuary. Both the statues and carved relief panels were sculpted by Pedrini Sculptors of Avenza, Italy. Blessed Mother Teresa faces the Shrine to St. Joseph at the end of the ambulatory. The carved relief panel below the statue depicts Jesus healing the sick with Mother Teresa standing behind him. Blessed Pope John Paul The Great faces the Shrine to the Blessed Virgin Mary at the end of the ambulatory. 10 The carved relief panel below the statue depicts Jesus giving the keys to the kingdom to St. Peter.

STAINED GLASS Tower Windows Designed for the windows on the front façade with depictions of angels with passion instruments. Inspired by Bernini s angels on the Castel de Angelo in Rome. Sacristy Windows Multi-tone alabaster with insets of stained glass. Upper Transept Windows Will contain scenes of the Dormition and Assumption of Mary above the baptistry and Jesus calling the Apostles above the Sacred Heart Shrine. Small Tower Window Five windows high on the two towers similar in design to our Little Church. 11

PICTURES OF OTHER SELECT ITEMS Altar - The Altar comes from Sacred Heart Church in Vailsburg, NJ. Bishop Fulton Sheen officiated at the dedication of Sacred Heart. The items being repurposed from Sacred Heart were made by Italian craftsman in the 1920 s for Daprato of Chicago, New York, and Pietrasanta, Italy. This beautiful work of art is made of Algerian onyx. Altar Cloths Custom designed altar clothes made to fit the altar which measures 10 feet by 4 feet. Sacristy: Vestment Storage Cabinetry This beautiful 12 foot long dark solid oak and poplar wood cabinet with brass knobs and pulls was designed for the sacristy at Sacred Heart Church. The cabinet has been placed against the main wall of the sacristy. Vesting Table and Chairs A large wooden table graces the center of the sacristy. Frieze - The frieze circles the nave with Latin quotes from the Gospel of St. John. The frieze is painted in traditional gold leaf. At the beginning and end of each passage is the chapter and verse quotation reference. Bell Tower & Bells - The taller tower houses the bell tower and reaches 130 feet. The two towers each have a copper roof and a six foot cross. Electronic bells now ring off the hours throughout Leesburg. 12

PICTURES OF OTHER SELECT ITEMS Fellowship Hall - The primary purpose is as a gathering spot following Sunday Masses. The room is furnished with tables and chairs to provide a welcoming environment for socializing and enjoying coffee and donuts. An included pantry is available for simple preparations (i.e., coffee). Our Parish Center will continue to be used for larger events such as soup and spaghetti suppers. Confessional Rooms - Four full confessionals, each with screens and kneelers aid in effective Sacramental Confession. An ingenious sensor controls lights to alert penitents when a confessional is open. Pews - Traditional dark, hardwood pews are designed to reflect simple and noble beauty. They reflect the ceiling line and incorporate the crosses of the pews in the Little Church. Organ The organ is a Rodgers 351 Signature Series, featuring 3 manuals, 51 stop positions, 70 voice palette stops and more-- equivalent to 153 pipe ranks. It has an expansive memory, including USB, and is fully compatible with speaking pipes; that is, it is a "hybrid" digital which can support real organ pipes. These can be added at a future date. Garden Room A respite for families with restless babies & toddlers equipped with close-circuit monitors allowing families to stay connected during the mass. The room may be reserved for private use during weddings and funerals. 13 Front Doors The three large 6'x12' clad double doors, similar to bronze, have been treated with a protective finish.
