Thus he does not lose his divinity when he teaches us humility... What great thing was it to the king of the ages to become the king of humanity? For Christ was not the king of Israel so that he might exact a tax or equip an army with weaponry and visibly vanquish an enemy. He was the king of Israel in that he rules minds, in that he gives counsel for eternity, in that he leads into the kingdom of heaven for those who believe, hope, and love. It is a condescension, not an advancement for one who is the Son of God, equal to the Father, the Word through whom all things were made, to become king of Israel. It is an indication of pity, not an increase in power." Veneration of the Holy Rood on Good Friday Our main cross, or rood, has been modified so it can be lowered and raised on its supporting cables. This will allow us to bring down the cross for the Veneration of the Cross on Good Friday. Recent liturgy documents from the Church suggest that the cross which is most visible to the congregation be selected for veneration. Its weight and dimensions will require several adults to process it into the church and arrange it for veneration on Good Friday. Since we have been praying with the image of this cross in our minds and hearts, its use on Good Friday should add immeasurably to the reverence and prayerfulness of the veneration. Good Friday Services begin at 2:30 PM with contemplative strings and 3:00 PM liturgy. While it has been customary to observe silence on Good Friday, it seems very difficult to gather people in silence. The peaceful music settles everyone and predisposes to silent meditation. Please join us on Good Friday. Faith Seeking Understanding Join us this Wednesday, March 23rd for our final Lenten Adult Formation Meeting at 7:00 PM in the St. Joseph Meeting Room, lower level of the church, the subject will be The Passion Narrative According to Luke, assignment: preface, pp

The joy of Easter is better appreciated when we walk the journey with Jesus from the last Supper to the empty tomb. Make time for one or all of the very beautiful and spiritually enriching liturgies of the Triduum. Mass of the Lord s Supper With the celebration of Mass on the evening of Holy Thursday, the Church begins the Easter Triduum and recalls the Last Supper in which the Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, gave His body and blood under the species of bread and wine to the Apostles. Please help us celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, March 24th at 7:00 PM in the Church. Stations of the Cross Praying the Stations of the Cross helps us reflect on the passion and death of Christ in preparation for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Join us for Stations of the Cross on Friday evenings at 7:00 PM in Holy Cross Church. Confessions will be heard immediately following Stations. Lenten Regulations Good Friday is a day of Fasting and Abstinence * Those between the ages of are obliged to fast; only one full meal. * Those over the age of 14 are obliged to abstain from meat. *All are required to receive Holy Communion at least once during the Easter Season. Good Friday Collection On Good Friday, we will have the Collection for the Holy Land. This collection provides; Pastoral care for parishes in the Holy Land, housing and health care for the poor and elderly, schools, often at no charge to students, care for the shrines and chapels, and welcome for pilgrims. Go to for details.
3 March 20, 2016 Page 3 #623 Holy Cross Men s Group Holy Cross Men s Group The Triumph of Mercy Holy Cross Men s Group Please join the Holy Cross Men s Group on Thursday, April 7th, at 7:00 PM in the Saint Joseph Meeting Room, lower level of Holy Cross Church. The Men s Group will be meeting on Thursday, April 7, with a video presentation on the topic: The Triumph of Mercy. The goal is to help us trust in the mercy of God and see that it is made manifest to us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The discussion is intended to help men identify Pope John Paul II as the apostle of mercy and show how he has set us on the course to a merciful encounter with God, and the profound effects of a good confession (in the miracle story). We will also briefly discuss how to have a personal conversation of our experience with the mercy of God, and how we can consider the goodness of God manifest in the establishment of the Sacrament of Confession. The Holy Cross Men s Group provides opportunities for spiritual and personal growth, service to the parish community, and social interaction. Bring A FRIEND! For information, please contact the Parish Office. Annual Catholic Appeal Ministry of Clergy Personnel The Ministry of Clergy Personnel assists the Bishop every day in the assignment of priests and deacons in the diocese, handles all personnel matters pertaining to active and retired priests and works with priests from outside the diocese who seek to minister in the diocese. Ministry of Clergy Personnel keeps priests and deacons informed of events in the diocese specifically for clergy, assists in the continuing education of clergy, the annual convocation of priests and in working throughout the diocese. Your gift supports Bishop, priests and deacons in serving parishioners in the Diocese of Trenton. Holy Cross Scholarship Attention High School Seniors!
