Holy Spirit Mission Statement We, the Family of Faith at Holy Spirit, proclaim that by our Baptism we share in Christ s mission as Priest, Prophet and King. We recognize our responsibility to give worship to God, reverence to all people, respect to all creation and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Acknowledging our own brokenness and our need to hope, we seek to be a forgiving and welcoming community committed to service by the sharing of life and love with all, and working together to make peace and justice a reality in our world. Strengthened by the presence of God in our lives, we undertake all of this through Our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen. Alleluia

2 Holy Spirit Catholic Church March 18, 2018 From The Pastor s Desk On this last Sunday before Passion Sunday, we are given that simple but powerful image of the grain of wheat. This is the basic paradox of the Christian life we have to let go in order to possess to lose in order to find to die so that we may live. To be a good parent, you have to let go of your children. We all know of parents who will not let their children go. They want to control their children even though their children have moved away or even married. This can cause a lot of trouble between husbands and wives. Some of the classic stories about in-laws do have some basis in reality. How many children feel that they are slaves of their parents because there is no real freedom for them? As soon as they can, they leave their parental home because they feel they are being suffocated. All of this calls for a lot of common sense. I m not talking about letting your thirteen year old son or daughter run loose on the streets. But there does come a time when parents have to give their children the freedom to be who they want to be. I know that is difficult but there is no other way to teach your children freedom than to give it to them To be a good son or daughter, you have to let go of your parents and learn to take your place in this world as an adult. We are told through the commandments that we must honor our parents but we are not told that we should not grow up. You shouldn t continue to cling to your parents when that is no longer appropriate. To be a good wife or husband, you may have to let go of the image you had of how a good wife or husband should behave or what a good marriage may look like. Your expectations may be keeping life out of your marriage. When a man and a woman get married they both bring into that marriage expectation of what a marriage is supposed to be. Many times they don t think about the image of marriage they bring to their new relationship. However, they behave in the marriage the way they think husbands and wives should act. This can cause a tremendous number of problems. Only when each partner is willing to give up their idea of marriage as being the only one that is the right one, can the spouses have a chance to form their own idea of what their marriage is going to be like. Then they can work together as realizing their dream, instead of each of them working at an idea of marriage that clash with their partner s idea. The question each of us has to ask is this: What is it that I am unwilling to let go of? What am I clinging to? When we are willing to let go of our addictions and obsessions, we will then experience new life. It will be difficult at first and we will suffer. But our surrender will yield a rich harvest. 4 Holy Spirit Catholic Church March 18, 2018 Faith Formation classes resume this Sunday, March 18 after our Spring Break! We trust you all had a wonderful weekend off. We only have six classes left for the 2017/18 Faith Formation year but hey, who s counting... Feast of St. Joseph Everyone (that s the whole parish) is invited to join us this Sunday, March 18 in the Community Center lobby to enjoy our annual St. Joseph s Altar, a joint venture with Community Life! Because this feast day event has become so popular, we have moved a portion of it to the gym so there is more space for everyone to be comfortable. We love a big crowd! We ll have yummy baked goods, coffee and juice from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m., plus you can pick up prayer cards and/or write down prayer intentions, which will be given to Fr. Joe. If you re in the baking spirit, you can drop off baked good donations at the front desk on March 18 to share! Just be sure to put them on disposable, non-returnable platters...that way, we don t lose your stuff... 6th Grade Mornings with Mom & Dad are NEXT Sunday, March 25 in the dining room during your child s normal Faith Formation time. Parents, plan on joining your child for another fun, faith-filled session but remember these sessions are NOT part of the sacramental preparation process. Also, Mornings with Mom & Dad are meant to give you and your child some quality one-on-one time, so please take advantage of our wonderful nursery for younger siblings. This allows all families attending to enjoy the session without disruption. 5th Grade Mornings with Mom & Dad are scheduled for Sunday, April 8 after our Easter Break. Speaking of the Easter Break, there are no Faith Formation classes on Sunday, April 1, as we celebrate Easter Sunday! Classes resume Sunday, April 8. SACRAMENTS & SUCH.
