1 March 18th, 2018 Fifth Sunday of Lent - Page 145 St. James the Less Catholic Church 1032 Caledonia St., La Crosse, WI saintjameslacrosse@gmail.com The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me. Jn 12:20-33

JOSEPH Sunday, March 18, 2018 Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman - La Crosse. Immediately following the 10:30 AM Pontifical Mass celebrated by Bishop Callahan - the 5th anniversary of the Cause for Fr. Joseph Walijewski At no other time in history has traditional marriage and the family been under greater attack. We must fight back and uphold marriage between one man and one woman and defend the family against the wiles of the enemy. The Rosary is our greatest weapon; we must employ it. With the Holy Family as our model and Commanders. Please come join with your family the ranks of prayer warriors and bring your Rosary to the America Needs Fatima Rosary Rally - Under the Patronage of St. Joseph. What better way to come to battle, than straight from Holy Communion! Light refreshments will be provided. Rosary Rally will begin soon after Mass and end around 1:15 pm (If weather is really inclement, Rosary will be held in the Church)

5 B Lent 4th Wednesday FORGIVNESS through the Sacrament of Confession After the healing at Bethesda, the Jews trying harder to kill Jesus! So, remember the last line of the Gospel story yesterday? It read: Therefore, the Jews began to persecute Jesus because Jesus healed the man who had suffered for 38-year-long-years, and Jesus did this on a sabbath! CRIME OF CRIMES... Jesus healed someone on the Sabbath!! So let's kill Him!! Do you see how screwed up in the head people can get... when they do not know what they don't know, but think they know way more than they do? The next verse after yesterday s Gospel is the first verse we heard today: But Jesus answered them, My Father is at work until now, so I am at work. Jn 5:17 And then we the very next verse: For this reason the Jews tried all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath but he also called God his own father, making himself equal to God. Jn 5:18 Now notice it said the Jews tried all the more to kill Him... meaning - hear now and understand completely - that the Jews already were trying to KILL Jesus, but now, they tried all the more... they tried harder... they worked harder yet... to kill Jesus! Ultimately... Jesus allowed them to kill His mortal body on the Cross. Remember how clear He made that when He said He, Himself, was choosing to lay down His life and then, at the Resurrection, take it up again. Jesus chose to do it, and He allowed it to happen so He could prove, once and for all, the infinite Divine Love of His Father. That is why we heard the most tender passage from Isaiah, when, after the faithful Jews lamented that God had forsaken them, God spoke to them through His great prophet Isaiah: Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you. In fact, He cannot forget us. He cannot not forgive us when we repent. That is why St. John Vianney, Patron Saint of Priests, said: God is quicker to forgive than a mother to snatch her child from the fire. Through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Jesus' voice echoes down through the ages, come to Me, all you who are burdened, and I will give you rest, and forgiveness, and peace... and consolation... and love. The icons of Confession on this page say it all. Just meditate on the meaning behind that icons... how Jesus actually is present in His servant, the priest... how it really is Jesus Who forgives through the Sacrament He created. And so, in His sacramental presence through the priest, Jesus asks us the same question of the man at the pool at Bethsaida, the man who had been ill for 38 years: Do you want to be well? Jesus asks us the same question he asked of the blind man Bartameus, What do you want me to do for you? When we have unburdened our hearts, we will hear Him speak again, saying to us what He said to the man at the pool and to Bartameus, "Go in peace. Sin no more. Your faith has made you well." Do we believe that Jesus desires our healing, or do we stay away from the Sacrament of Penance because we are not sure that Jesus really wants to forgive our sins because we, somehow, are just the worst sinners going? How can any priest stress enough what St. John Vianney said so eloquently: God is quicker to forgive than a mother to snatch her child from the fire. Jesus forgives through His chosen minister the ordained Catholic priest Jesus wanted to heal and forgive the man at the pool and blind man Bartameus. He longs to heal us as well. He longs to heal us and forgive us as much as He desired to ascend His throne on Calvary. What more proof of it can we possibly ask for? Let our hearts be converted by the Gospels. Let us comprehend Jesus' desire to heal knows no limits. His Passion, which includes his willingness to forgive even those who crucified him, bears supreme witness to his desire to forgive. Believing this, let us be drawn to the Sacrament of Penance, in which our desire to be healed meets Jesus' desire to heal us. Let us, now and always, rely upon the proof of the Cross as we go to Him Who redeemed us on that Cross... because He loves us more than a mother loves her child. He loved us just that much.
