According to the Diocesan Bishop s Annual Appeal, this has been the most successful Appeal they have ever had in our Diocese. All the credit goes to you, dear family, and to our Lay Appeal Chairperson, Thomas Pender. The 2015 Bishop s Annual Appeal s goal was $17,420 and Cash received through March 21, 2016 was up to $42, Parishes that exceed their Appeal goal receive 50% of the cash received over the goal. That s why I am happy to report that our Parish received recently received a check from our Diocese for Twelve Thousand Four Hundred Forty Six Dollars and 30 Cents $12,446.30). These parish funds are only available because of your generosity and for those of you who are making ongoing payments on their 2015 Bishop s Annual Appeal. We have created a rainy day account. So this check is going to be deposited in to this account. Your gift tells me, as your pastor, that you recognize the role of each person in the evangelization and life of our diocese. Your generosity insures that the people of our parish and diocese will continue to receive spiritual, educational, and social services from the Church. Thank you for helping to build our legacy of faith by responding and ensuring the ministries of our Church continue on. Thank you again for all that you do for the Church. May the Lord bless you and your loved ones. As always, you are in my prayers. God Bless you, Fr. Antonio DEACON MICHAL SZWARC According to the Canon Law of the Church, the Christian faithful are morally obliged to assist the Church in ensuring that only fit candidates are ordained. Knowledge of anything that might stand in the way of ordination needs to be shared with the Bishop or the Pastor. This is a very serious obligation on the part of the faithful. Equally important is the faithful s responsibility to testify to the qualities of the one to be ordained. It is to this end that we officially publish the Banns concerning the ordination of Rev. Mr. Michal Szwarc to the Sacred Order of the Presbyter. I invite you to offer your input, either by letter or to be received no later than Friday, May

It is a retreat exclusively managed by lay people like you and me who share their life s most significant faith experiences. Participate and walk away with a much greater awareness of how our loving God influences our lives. Develop also a deeper personal relationship with our true savior and best friend, Jesus Christ. Suggestions for an Act (s) of Mercy for this week are: Corporal Works of Mercy* 1. If you have: 5 Minutes: send a text to someone you know is struggling with a situation saying you just thought of them and wish them a good day. Love, Hope, Faith and Courage. Add a personal touch. 15 Minutes: Hang a sign on a bulletin board that says Take What You Need - with tear-off tabs at the bottom for Love, Hope, Faith and Courage. 1 Hour: Think of someone who is going through a difficult time and invite him/her for a coffee. Listen, encourage, be a Disciple. 2. Flick the switch! Make a point of unplugging everything or perhaps just turn off your lights whenever you re not using them. 3. Get Involved: Walk instead of taking the elevator, use public transportation or car sharing instead of your car. Thought for discussion and/or meditation Doing whatever we can so that everyone has food, but also reminding the world s powerful that God will call them to be judged one day, and it will be demonstrated whether they have truly tried to provide food for Him in each person. ~ Pope Francis (cf. Mt 25:35)Homily, 12 May 2015 It is a great joy for us to welcome new members to our Parish Family. At the Easter Vigil, everything used in the previous liturgies are replaced with new. The fire is built and the new Paschal candle is lit from this fire. The ceremonial lighting of the Paschal candle is one of the most solemn moments of the service. A new Paschal candle is blessed and lit every year at Easter, and is used throughout the Paschal season which is during Easter and then throughout the year on special occasions, such as baptisms and funerals. On Holy Thursday, the entire church is darkened by extinguishing all candles and lamps. This represents the darkness of a world without God. At the opening of the Easter Vigil a "new fire" is lit and blessed. The symbols on the Paschal candle are traced while the priest says: "Christ, yesterday and today, the beginning and the ending. To Christ belongs all time and all the ages; to Christ belongs glory and dominion now and forever. Amen." The Paschal candle is the first candle to be lit with a flame from this sacred fire, representing the light of Christ coming into the world. This represents the risen Christ, as a symbol of light (life) dispelling darkness (death). As it is lit, the priest may say words similar to: "The light of Christ, rising in Glory, dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds." The candle is presented three times. The first time it is the only flame to be lit. It represents the power of Christ dispelling all darkness, Then, the priest lights his taper from the Paschal Candle. The second time, the candle is presented mid way and we remember our Baptism Call. At that time, all tapers are lit and only from the flame of the Paschal Candle in order that we, too, share in this magnificent Light of Christ; no lighters or matches are used. We hear the call in the exulted that is then chanted by the deacon: "Accept this Easter candle, a flame divided but undimmed, a pillar of fire that glows to the honor of God." The Paschal Candle will remain in the sanctuary throughout the Easter Season. After the last mass on Pentecost, it will be placed by the Baptistery and is to only be used for Baptism and Funerals. A reflection from our neophyte, Joyce Liberti: I would like to send a warm heart felt thank you to all of you who helped me get through this incredible journey. When I first started this journey back in October it seemed like a life time away. Now six months later the time has come and gone. It will be a day I will never forget. It was so exciting to see all of you on Saturday night to share this day with myself and my family. The incredible support and love I received from all in the parish was more than I ever imagined. For those of you who never heard my journey I wanted to share the love and faith my family has. I have been married for 32 years. During this time my sister in law who never mentioned a thing to me had prayed that someday I would become a Catholic. I started looking into the RCIA Classes. When I was coming to my first class I told my husband, a few weeks later I told my dear friends, then my sister and brother in law (my godparents). The day I shared this with my sister in law it was her birthday. She cried, and said that her prayers had been answered. I had no idea she was praying for me. My other brother in law passed away 20 years ago. Every time he was in the car or even at home he was always saying the rosary, to the point he wore the head off of Jesus. When he passed he asked his wife to give me his rosary and St Anthony medal. To this day I still have both. The night I was baptized, confirmed and received my holy communion was March 26. It would have been his 77 th birthday. With all that said I truly had the spirit of Jesus with me that night. I pray that it will continue to be with me through the journey that God has for me. With all my love and prayers thank you all again for your support
