MYSTAGOGY Sacraments are gifts that keep on giving if we know how to live them mystagogically as a life-long process of living the sacrament, of constant conversion.
How sacraments work according to the CCC IV. The Sacraments of Salvation 1127: Celebrated worthily in faith, the sacraments confer the grace that they signify. They are efficacious because in them Christ himself is at work: it is he who baptizes, he who acts in his sacraments in order to communicate the grace that each sacrament signifies. The Father always hears the prayer of his Son s Church which, in the epiclesis of each sacrament, expresses her faith in the power of the Spirit.[*] As fire transforms into itself everything it touches, so the Holy Spirit transforms into the divine life whatever is subjected to his power. [*] The missing footnote!
In other words, the Holy Spirit is the best good thing you can ask from the Father in the name of Jesus. This is a prayer God can never refuse to answer.
Mystagogical Appropriation of Baptism 1. Watch the birth of a baby. 2. Attend an infant baptism (be on the lookout for the down payment on the Eucharist and the down Payment on Confirmation). 3. Attend the Rite of acceptance into the catechumenate (pay attention to all the signs of the cross and the words spoken). 4. Learn to use the Litany of the Saints. 5. Renew the Signs of the Cross by use of the rite of admission to candidacy for full communion and by discovering the experience of the cross already in your life.

Mystagogical Appropriation of Baptism 6. Renew your baptismal promises on the anniversary of your baptism. 7. Renew your sense of being a baptized person: Learn to bless Use holy water Use candles 8. Renew your sense of your Father in heaven and learn the meaning of each of the seven petitions of the Lord s Prayer (imagine a father holding his child in a Baby Bjorn ).
Mystagogical Appropriation of Reconciliation 1. Do a mystagogy on your first confession. 2. Learn the Dynamics of the Decalogue: The Way of Life (the Culture or Psychology) of the Ten Commandments. 3. Learn the Beatitudes. 4. Learn the seven deadly sins, your temptations, and the ways through them.

Mystagogical Appropriation of Eucharist 1. Do a mystagogy on your first holy communion. 2. Learn how bread and wine are made. 3. Renew your experience of the Mass by engaging in regular mystagogy. 4. Learn to list and pray/offer your prayers, works, joys, and sufferings.
Prayers Works Joys Sufferings
Prayers Works What is on your mind and heart? Where in your life do you want God s help, God s light, God s strength? What do you need, for yourself, for others? Joys Sufferings
Prayers Works Be ready to bring these prayers to mind in the silencefor-prayer after the priest says, Let us pray. God wants to hear them. Joys Sufferings
Prayers Works How do you spend your waking hours? How do you put bread on your table? What do you do for a living? What are your responsibilities at home, in your family, at school, in the workplace? What are your chores, hobbies, interests, volunteer activities? Joys Sufferings
Prayers Works Be ready to put these on the altar during the preparation of the gifts. God wants to bless them. Joys Sufferings
Prayers Works Joys Sufferings What gives you joy, both joys with big Js and little js? What puts a smile on your face? Are you celebrating any victories, any events? What resources do you have (talents, advantages, good health, education, wealth, athletic ability, artistic ability)?
Prayers Works Joys Sufferings These are symbolized by the wine presented during the preparation of the gifts. God wants to consecrate them and to increase them and to rejoice with you in them.
Prayers Works Joys Sufferings Where in your life do you feel powerless, hopeless? What are the lacks in your life? What are your chronic pains, disabilities? What are your worries and heartaches about yourself and others, about the world? What are your lonelinesses and disappointments?
Prayers Works Joys Sufferings These are symbolized by the unleavened bread presented during the preparation of the gifts. God wants to consecrate them and to diminish them and to give you courage.
