The Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, [All bow, at the following text ] and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 4

7 Our Faith SUMMONED BY GOD As Christmas draws near, Advent s scriptures lure us into a world of dreams, signs, wonders, and the miracle of the virgin birth. Too often we allow the great stories of our faith, the ones that are most familiar, simply to wash over us. Today s Gospel account of the events leading up to the birth of the Lord reads like a present day soap opera. Yet Joseph s courage, even in the midst of what must have been an incredibly confusing time, provides a model for us. Each week, we are summoned by God to embrace the way of goodness and truth through the proclamation of God s holy word. Like Joseph, we are called to do as the Lord commands us. As we stand at the threshold of Christmas, let us have the courage to be open to whatever it is that the Lord will require of us as we celebrate the miracle of Bethlehem. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. TODAY S READINGS First Reading You will be given this sign: the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel (Isaiah 7:10 14). Psalm Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory (Psalm 24). Second Reading God has called us to belong to Jesus Christ (Romans 1:1 7). Gospel The son born of Mary shall be called Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. He shall be Emmanuel, God is with us (Matthew 1:18 24).The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass 1969, 1981, 1997, International Commission on English in the Liturgy Corporation. SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Fourth Sunday of Advent Tuesday: St. Peter Canisius; Winter Solstice Thursday: St. John of Kanty Friday: The Vigil of Christmas Saturday: The Nativity of the Lord (Christmas) GETTING EVEN The only ones you should try to get even with are those who have helped you. Anonymous Hail, Holy Queen Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V/: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R/: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. The presence of children is a gift to the Church and they are a reminder that our parish is growing. Please welcome them and give a smile of encouragement to their parents. Moms and Dads with infants and young children; keep coming to Mass here. Over time of weekly Mass attendance they will catch on: how to pray, to concentrate and know that Jesus is present here in church. Sit toward the front where it is easier for them to see and hear. Sitting in the back of church they will only see the backs of others. There are several pre school age books with pictures of the priest offering Mass. Help them to stay on the right page. At Family Masses; Father will invite parents and older siblings to help younger children find the prayers that are printed in the bulletin worship aid. Your example of singing the hymns; praying and voicing the responses are the best ways to teach. If a child begins to cry; no worries. If you have to leave Mass momentarily with your child; feel free to do so, but please come back. Psalm 8 teaches us that out of the voices of infants you have foiled the enemy. This means that Jesus Christ can use the sounds coming from the voice of a child to foil the evil one. Powerful!! All are welcomed by Jesus and His Church. Why? Because he wants all of his people from the very old to the very young to grow in holiness, in His ways of life and truth; and to become saints! 9

11 STRONA DUSZPASTERSTWA POLSKOJÊZYCZNEGO W PARAFII ªw.TEKLI IV NIEDZIELA ADWENTU Z Ducha ªwiêtego jest to co siê w Niej poczê³o. Wprowadzenie do liturgii Boże Narodzenie już blisko. Dzisiaj ostatnia niedziela adwentowego oczekiwania. Info./ www. wiara.pl Polskie Duszpasterstwo Parafii ªw. 13 St. Nicholas visited the students on his Feast Day, December 6th; and spent last Saturday evening with a Family School Association event Evening with St. Nick. The cold winter weather helped first grade students with the science unit on weather. Through reading, writing, experimenting, and observing they learn about the elements of weather, the water cycle, and how weather is measured. A favorite experiment was creating rain in a bowl using hot water and ice. The children observed as evaporation, condensation, and precipitation happened right in our room!
