2 WASHINGTON Recently, I attended the 50th Sacerdotal Ordination (in simple word, anniversary) of Filipino-American priest, the Rev. Romeo B. Biala. (I could not imagine myself being a Catholic priest for 50 years...or even 25, maybe two years?) Perhaps, in this lifetime, we would have the opportunity of attending such celebration only ones or twice. I mean, it s not a common activity. The solemn and beautiful Thanksgiving Mass was held at the imposing Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield, N.J. at noon on June 6. In addition to Fr. Biala, three fellow priests concelebrated the mass. It was a spiritually graceful sight to watch the four priests sitting beside each other in their vestments. The celebrant was in gold vestment, while the other three, in white embroidered cassock. Rev. Biala opened his homily by saying, For 50 years, I worked as priest of God and of people. This priest has become close to my heart and to my family since he officiated the marriage of my son Adrian to his niece Natasha less than two years ago. 2 / 6

Biala has quite a history of diocesan assignments before he joined the U.S. Navy as chaplain. He was a former parish priest of Los Alaminos Parish in Pangasinan. He was also assigned in San Carlos City, Malasiqui and Bayambang, also in his home province. In the U.S., Fr. Biala was assigned in Belville and Jersey City, N.J. and Rockville Center in Long Island, N.Y. As chaplain, he worked in navy installations in Japan, Rhode Island, California and North Carolina, where he served and retired after 20 years of continuous service. We wish Rev.
