Thank you for your cooperation. BAPTISM: Communal celebrations of Baptism take place on the first and third Sundays at 2:00 PM. To arrange a Baptism, please call the Rectory. A Baptismal Instruction Session is required before the Baptism. Because Godparents play an important role in the child s Christian life and education, Godparents must be practicing Catholics who have been confirmed, are at least 14 years of age and, if married, must be in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church. If there is a question about the suitability of someone to be a Godparent, please call the Rectory before asking the person to be a Godparent. RECONCILIATION: The Sacrament of Penance takes place on Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:45 PM. At other times, the person should make the request directly to a priest. MARRIAGE: Engaged couples should contact the Rectory at least six months in advance. Diocesan regulations require a marriage preparation program for all couples. MINISTRY TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND: If a parishioner is in the hospital or homebound, please contact the Rectory. Arrangements can be made for the person to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Also, Holy Communion can be brought to our homebound parishioners. PARISHIONER REGISTRATION Parishioner registration is important to the parish as well as the parishioner. All parishioners are encouraged to register. Once you have registered and continue to participate by attending Mass and receiving the Eucharist regularly; you will find it helpful for the enrollment of children in the Religious Education Program, and obtain the necessary documents to become a Godparent or a sponsor for Confirmation. If you are not already registered, please call the Rectory Office at to make an appointment to come in and register. Hours for registration are: MONDAY thru FRIDAY 9:00 am - 4:00 pm KEEPING UP WITH EXPENSES The parish effort to closely manage day to day expenses continues. However, expenses such as utilities, property insurance and our archdiocesan assessment for central services (in some months totaling as much as $15,000) put a strain on our ability to keep current with all expenses. Our objective is to achieve that goal without any assistance from the Archdiocese. The continued generosity of every parishioner and increased giving whenever possible will make that possible. 5 March 27, 2016 Page 4 Food Drive Our monthly Parish Food Drive for the poor in the area will take place next weekend, April 2nd and 3rd. In addition to pasta, cereal, tomato sauce, canned tuna, fruits and vegetables and peanut butter; personal hygiene articles are always needed. Our donations are distributed by Mary s Hope which delivers to homebound and disabled veterans. They are very grateful for your continued generosity. Our Lady of Lourdes Athletics Camp The OLL Athletics Camp is designed to introduce multiple sports to students ages Varsity level coaches will be teaching skills and utilizing drills to aid in the development of their specific sport. All ability levels are welcome. Each camper will receive daily instruction from coaches and varsity athletes. Sports included are: Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, Track & Field, Football, Soccer, Hockey and Lacrosse. The camp will operate June 27-July1 and July 5-July 8. Encyclical on the Environment In his encyclical on creation care, Pope Francis highlights integral ecology as the basis of the conversion we are all called to in order to save our common home from destruction. Integral ecology is the profound, fundamental interconnection between God, human beings and all the rest of creation. With Pope Francis we pray, Triune God...Give us the grace to feel profoundly joined to everything that is. As we reflect on our relationship to life-giving water, the air we breathe, and the ground we walk on, let us think of actions that we can take locally to protect the air, water and land for the generations to come. We might consider supporting legislative bills of our city, county or state that will serve to do this. Scripture Group Are you interested in joining a scripture group? 6 March 27, 2016 Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord DRAWN INTO THE STORY We are witnesses! The scripture readings for Easter Sunday concentrate on details reported by eyewitnesses. Listen carefully and you will be drawn into the stories yourself. Peter reports the good works Jesus did, his death on the cross, and his resurrection. The passage from John s Gospel has us running to the empty tomb with Peter and John and peering inside to see the cloths used to cover Jesus body. Psalm 118 sums up our response: It is wonderful in our eyes! What resurrection details do we see in our lives today? How have we died to our old lives and been raised up again with Jesus? Today, after several decades of intense liturgical reform, it is more proper to think of today as a Big Sunday. On every Sunday of the year, the Church is obliged to assemble, keeping the day holy. In most places, we hardly attain the goal of gathering all who are in Christ by baptism. Look around today and see what a Big Sunday looks like! Our tradition speaks of remembering, anamnesis, as the antidote to amnesia, the tragic forgetting of who God is and who we are as God s most beloved creation. On this Easter day, we are at our very best. We remember who God is, and we remember who we are in God s eyes: beloved sons and daughters, reborn to eternal life in baptismal waters. We rekindle our candles and reclaim our baptismal promises. As a Big Sunday, today also reflects the character of festivity and leisure that should mark every Lord s Day. We wear Sunday best today, and we may take some time, especially in the northern states, to stroll through a budding garden.
