Peter's Message 1 Sr. Warden s Message 2 Quilt Update 3 Holiday Fair Info 3 Field Trip 4 Calendar 6 PLEASE NOTE: The deadline for the newsletter items is the 15th of each month. Most high, all powerful, all good Lord! All praise is Yours, all glory, all honor, and all blessing. To You, alone, Most High, do they belong. No mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your name. Be praised, my Lord, through all Your creatures, especially through my lord Brother Sun, who brings the day; and You give light through him. And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor! Of You, Most High, he bears the likeness. Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars; in the heavens You have made them bright, precious and beautiful. Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, and clouds and storms, and all the weather, through which You give Your creatures sustenance. Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water; she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure. Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom You brighten the night. He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong. Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth, who feeds us and rules us, and produces various fruits with colored flowers and herbs. Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of You; through those who endure sickness and trial. Happy those who endure in peace, for by You, Most High, they will be crowned. Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Bodily Death, from whose embrace no living person can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin! Happy those she finds doing Your most holy will. The second death can do no harm to them. Praise and bless my Lord, and give thanks, and serve Him with great humility.
2 P a ge 2 T h e E v a n g e l S t. L u ke s Episcopal Church From the Senior Warden Your Vestry had their annual All Day Planning on Saturday October 17. As part of this meeting, we walk around all of our grounds and identify any issues that we need to address or plan for in next year s budget. A few of the key repair items are the border around the playground, doors on Perrine Hall yard storage closets are rotting, the Church drain field continues to need TLC, the Rectory needs painting, soffit replacement, and deck repairs. As the expenses get approved for these items, the Renny will be coordinating work parties or contacting contractors please let him know when or how you can help. The Vestry approved improvements to the Church Sound and Lighting Systems as they are an investment in our future. The sound system will include the capability to project the sound from the keyboard and other guest instruments as well as operated better with the Loop system for our hearing impaired. The lighting improvements will remove the buzzing in the sound system and reduce the heat output (good news for our A/ C units and for those serving at the Altar). We will us Memorial Funds to cover a good portion of these improvement but we don t want to deplete this fund so please consider donating to offset the costs. The Vestry also reviewed a quote for replacing the A/C unit that has been giving us trouble all summer. Given that we are moving into Fall, we put that expense on hold and are tracking it as a threat to next year s budget. The toughest area that we addressed was how to handle the yard maintenance after November. Mike Leclerc has announced his retirement from his Chief Lawn Mower position. Please join the Vestry in thanking Mike for his many years of service! As you know things grow quickly in Florida, so we are looking to find the best combination volunteers and/or lawn services. Given our acreage, obstacles (tombstones, fencing, etc), pinecones, and flowerbeds this can be costly in time and/or money; so if you have some thoughts please share them with Renny. Thank you for giving so faithfully in your time, talent and treasure. Yours in Christ,, Pam Join us on Sunday, October 2nd at 5:00 p.m. for the Blessing of the Animals
3 P a ge 3 T h e E v a n g e l S t. L u ke s Episcopal Church The Star Crazy Holiday Fair Quilt is finished!!! We are very excited to report that this year s Holiday Fair quilt is finished. We got a little carried away again and made the quilt and pillow shams reversible. We displayed it at church on this past Sunday but for those of you who missed the big reveal we have pictures of the quilt. Once again we want to thank everyone for their very generous financial support which allowed us to complete the quilt. The next step is, of course, selling the tickets. We are presently scheduled to sell tickets at the NMIHOA picnic and the Lighthouse Christian Church semiannual flea market as well as two other churches that also support the Sharing Center. The greatest source of ticket sales though are the personal contacts that we each have through family and friends and other organizations to which we individually belong. If you would like to buy tickets to win this beautiful quilt, please contact the church office. Your St. Luke s Quilters Remember, we need of items to sell at the Holiday Fair! Check your house for your gently used items! The sky's the limit - remember one man s junk is another man s treasure! Here are some suggestions: Collectables Kitchen items such as pots and pans, dishes, drinking glasses, tablecloths, placemats, cloth napkins, silverware, etc. Candle Holders Toys & Games & Books Paintings & Home Décor Craft Supplies / Yarn / Picture Frames Baskets / Plants Christmas Items Holiday Fair Information Please remember to mark your calendar to help come and help sort & price the donations!
4 P a ge 4 T h e E v a n g e l S t. L u ke s Episcopal Church All members of St. Luke's and friends are invited to join us for a field trip on Saturday, November 12th at 10:00a.m. to the White Sands Buddhist Center We will leave from the church at 10:00 a.m. and will convoy and carpool to the location in Mims off of Aurantia Road for about an hour, then on up to Oak Hill to Goodrich's Restaurant for lunch. After lunch we'll drive down the road to Seminole Rest for a brief tour, then back to the LaGrange Community Church and cemetery in Mims and a final stop at Frisbee s soft serve ice cream for dessert before heading back to the church. Invite your family and friends! There s something for everyone! In him you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life (Book of Common Prayer, p. 368). As Episcopalians, we are followers of Jesus Christ, and both our worship and our mission are in Christ s name. In Jesus, we find that the nature of God is love, and through baptism, we share in his victory over sin and death. Jane Tancredi "The Baptism"

Episcopalians from the Charleston/John s Island Area of South Carolina met in homes for worship. In 1886, the diocese of Florida established St. Luke s Mission and in 1888, the first church building was constructed on land given by Mr. Edward Porcher, with funds provided by Mrs. Lucy A. Boardman of Connecticut. This building remained the church building until a new one was dedicated on January 25, 1978, and the old building was designated the chapel. St. Luke s congregation uses the new building for most worship services and the chapel for small weddings and funerals. St. Luke s Parish offers a full program of worship and Christian Education on Sunday mornings. We also have a mid-week program of Eucharist and Healing Service Study. In addition, dedicated adult leaders staff our Youth Group for grades 6th-12th. St. Luke s Parish was one of the founders of the Central Brevard Sharing Center, which seeks to meet the needs of those people who cannot find help through regular service agencies. Since 1886, St. Luke s Church has sought to offer the love and worship of God through Jesus Christ by serving their neighbors and strives to make a positive contribution to the spiritual growth of Merritt Island and Central Brevard County.
