Baptism The Sacrament of Baptism is normally celebrated on the second Sunday of each month. A Preparation Program is required for first time parents. New parents should register for the Baptism as soon as possible after the child s birth by contacting the Parish Office. Matrimony According to the policy of the Archdiocese of Newark arrangements for weddings should be made at least one year in advance. Please contact the priest whom you wish to officiate at your wedding, by calling the Parish Office. Novena In honor of Our Lady and St. Jude: Monday (September June) immediately after 8:30 Mass. Parish Membership Our parish family invites all of its members to participate fully in our spiritual and social life. Every family moving into the parish is requested to register at the Parish Office. If you move, please let us know. Certificates of Eligibility (Godparent/ Sponsor certificate) will only be given to registered parishioners. Who would not be insulted to receive a thankyou note for your ordinary birthday gift, or the ordinary hospitality at the dinner party? No restaurant advertises its ordinariness, no car dealer seats a customer at the steering wheel and whispers, Look how ordinary it is! Yet here we are in Ordinary Time. The word carries a different meaning here: it does not mean these days are dull boring, pedestrian, uninteresting. It means ordinal, or numbered Sundays, a season of the year when we follow the story of Jesus life and ministry in an ordered way, with each Sunday assigned an ordinal number. You can amaze your friends with this example of Catholic arithmetic: the Ordinary Sundays begin with the last Sunday of Christmas, the Baptism of the Lord, continue until the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, and resume after a cluster of feasts following Pentecost Sunday. The numbers are calculated by counting backwards from the Solemnity of Christ the King, the Thirtyfourth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Now you know there is nothing ordinary about Ordinary Time! Next weekend we again celebrate the start of Catholic Schools Week. We will have special speakers at all the Masses, and, following the 10:30 Mass, a special Open House and celebration in the Parish Hall. The length of time of the process varies according to individual need, experience, readiness and commitment. If you, or someone you know is interested in more information, please call Cathy Drake at the Office of Religious Education at (908) ~~~also~~~ If you are not a Catholic, but attracted to the Catholic Church, or a Catholic needing to complete your Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist or Confirmation), this is a time set aside for asking questions and exploring God s call in an informal setting. There are no commitments or obligations required, only questions answered and information shared. 6 Page 6 THE THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 22, 2017 Knights of Columbus Columbian Swim Club News Good News for 2017 As part of our ongoing charitable programs of the Union Knights of Columbus Council 4504, the Columbian Swim Club has created a new membership category and is extending membership invitations to all Holy Spirit Parishioners and their families. As a parishioner you do not need to be a member of the Knights of Columbus to take advantage of this OASIS in Union. You must be a registered member of Holy Spirit Church. Parishioner s memberships includes both spouses, all children up to the age of 25 years and all grandchildren of the parishioner. The Swim Club offers a low cost, summer fun swimming environment that includes a large swimming pool, deck chairs, umbrellas, changing/bathing facilities, Baby Pool and certified life guards. The Swim Club will open to its members on May 27, 2017 with a pool Side Mass and blessing.
