2 Is God tugging your heart? T hanks to those of you who attended the trainings for various liturgical ministries. It was so wonderful to see so many of you involved in those ministries. These are ministries that are closely connected to the Holy Mass the summit and center of our faith. Lectors are those who get up there to proclaim the Word of God during Mass, read prayers of intercessions, and make the announcements. Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are those who help in serving the Precious Body and Blood of Christ. Acolytes assist the priest at the altar during Mass. Sacristans set everything up for the Mass. I have heard some people say that they do not feel worthy to be part of these ministries to proclaim the Word of God, or to distribute the Precious Body and Blood of Christ, or to assist at the altar, or to set up for the Mass as Sacristans. The disciples Jesus called were not all qualified people. But He taught them and prepared them for the task that He had in mind for them. God calls not the qualified but He qualifies the called. There were a number of new ministers who came to the training. Thank you for your love for the Church and love for God. We can use more volunteers for various ministries. If God is tugging your heart to be part of one or more ministries in the Church, please do not say No. No one else can do what God calls you to do! Father Jose

5 A Warm Welcome! Please welcome Deacon Steve and Mary McGlone to our St. Francis Parish. They recently retired here from Tacoma, WA. You may have noticed Deacon Steve at Mass recently, and Mary is serving as a Eucharistic Minister. Steve was ordained a permanent Deacon in He served at St. Charles Borromeo, where he was also the parish administrator. And Mary is retired from the Tacoma Public Schools, where she served as a guidance counselor and the lead counselor for the Tacoma District s Crisis Team. They have one daughter who lives in Portland and two sons one of whom lives here in Bend. Welcome, Mary and Deacon Steve! Fr. Jose The Picture Directory More than 25% of SF parishioners have made appointments to have their pictures taken for the new Picture Directory. There are still plenty of appointments available, so signup now to assure the date and time you prefer. All participants get a free 8x10 portrait as well as a free Picture Directory. For families with college students, we have a number of options for you. Take a picture of your student and send it to us with $10 for the processing fee. We want to have everyone in our parish family in the new Parish Picture Directory! If you need alternative picture ideas, please call Coordinator Monica Uballez at (818) Sue Rosa Walk for Life I will be walking in the Pregnancy Resource Center s Walk for Life fundraising event next Saturday, October 1st, from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m., at the River Bend Park, which is located at 799 SW Columbia. We are in a race to save lives every day, but on this day I will be walking alongside many of the lives, clients and supporters who have been instrumental in changing the negative stigma of the Pro-Life Movement into something of great value and beauty. Sherry Rice Latin Mass There will be a sung, extraordinary form Latin Mass on Sunday, October 2nd, at 1 p.m., at the Historic Church. From now on, the every-other-week Masses will all be sung Masses. There will be Confession before each Mass on the first Sunday of the month from noon to 12:45 p.m. Stephanie Swee, Society of St. Gregory the Great Christmas Faire and After Faire The next planning meeting is on Monday, October 17th, at 6:30 p.m., in Seminar Room 1 for this major fundraiser on the weekend of November It s going to be here before you know it! We are looking for volunteers who are willing to spend 2, 4, 6 or more hours helping with this event before, during, or after the event. Please call to share your time with your parish. Remember, all proceeds go to our New Church mortgage. We re collecting your new or like-new items beginning on Monday, October 17th. Please no books, clothes, used puzzles, or pictures.
