2 INTRODUCTION In the body of Christ there exists a wonderful variety of ministries, which are especially evident when we gather around the altar to worship God. By virtue of our baptism in Christ some of us are called to serve as ministers of the liturgical assembly: altar servers assist the priest and deacon, sacristans prepare and maintain that which is necessary for divine worship, musicians help to raise our spirits in joyful praise, and ushers provide welcome and dignified order to the celebration. Today we ask God to bless abundantly these musicians of our diocese as they begin their liturgical ministry for the next year. Please stand as the organ accompanies the entrance procession. + Begin with the sign of the cross. OUR FATHER Our Fa - ther, who art in heav - en, hal - lowed be thy name; thy king-dom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heav-en. Give us this day our dai-ly bread, and for-give us our tres-pass-es as we for - give those who tres - pass a - gainst us; and lead us not in-to temp-ta - tion, but de-liv -er us from e - vil. BLESSING OF MUSICIANS Singing the Psalmody: For 2 lines: sing the first and last measures of the psalm tone For 3 lines: sing the first, second, and last measures of the psalm tone God of glory, your beloved Son has shown us that true worship comes from humble and contrite hearts. Bless our brothers and sisters, who have responded to the needs of our parish families and wish to commit themselves to your service as liturgical musicians. Grant that their ministry may be fruitful and our worship pleasing in your sight. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

3 INTERCESSIONS * HYMN When in Our Music God is Glorified Verses 1 and 2 everyone, verse 3 Ladies; verse 4 men; verse 5 everyone God pro-vides the Church with worthy ministers * to assist in divine worship. // Let us pray for these liturgical ministers of music, that God may bless them as they undertake their role of service in the parishes of the diocese. For the Church of Christ and for all our parishes, that all Christians may offer themselves as living sacrifices, we pray to the Lord. For all the liturgical ministers within our diocese, that they may deepen their commitment to serve God and their neighbor, we pray to the Lord. For these liturgical musicians, that the beauty which they create in song and praise may echo always in our hearts, we pray to the Lord. For the growth of our local Wichita Chapter of NPM, and in thanksgiving for becoming a permanent chapter and for the support it offers to the liturgical musicians of our diocese, we pray to the Lord. For all our deceased brothers and sisters who have shared their gift of song as liturgical musicians, that they may be numbered in the heavenly choirs this day, we pray to the Lord. Psalm 98 The Lord triumphs in his judgment (All repeat after cantor) This psalm tells of the Lord s first coming and that people of all nations will believe in him (Saint Athanasius). Sing a new song to the Lord for he has worked wonders. His right hand and his holy arm have brought salvation. The Lord has made known his salvation; has shown his justice to the nations. He has remembered his truth and love for the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout to the Lord, all the earth, ring out your joy. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp with the sound of music. With trumpets and the sound of the horn acclaim the King, the Lord. Let the sea and all within it thunder; the world, and all its peoples. Let the rivers clap their hands and the hills ring out their joy. Ladies: Men Ladies: Men: My soul + proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. All bow during the first half of the doxology The holy friends of Christ rejoice in heaven; they followed in his footsteps to the end. They have shed their blood for love of him and will reign with him for ever. The altar, as a sign of Christ who is perfect priest and victim, is incensed. As the icon of Christ the Bridegroom, the priest is incensed. As an image of the Church as Bride of Christ, the assembly is incensed, signifying that all are included and lifted up to the Father in our sacrifice of praise to God.

5 RESPONSORY Cantor / ALL Rejoice at the presence of the Lord, for he comes to rule the earth. He will rule the world with justice and the peoples with fairness. Praise God in his holy place, praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his powerful deeds, praise his surpassing greatness.
