2 SERVICE OF WORSHIP ( Those who are able, please stand in honor of God.) Prelude Fanfare for the Common Man Boulevard Brass Aaron Copland ringing of the Bells national anthem The Star Spangled Banner Cantate Chamber Choir Francis Scott Key O say can you see, by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight o'er the ramparts we watch'd were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bomb bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O, say does that star spangled banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? hymn 696 MATERNA America the Beautiful O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain; for purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed His grace on thee, and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea. O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife, who more than self their country loved, and mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine, till all success be nobleness, and every gain divine. O beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears! America! America! God mend thine every flaw, confirm thy soul in self-control, thy liberty in law. Call to WorshiP In the midst of the darkness, Your light shines forth. With You guiding me, I have nothing to fear. When death seems to loom large before me I will not shrink, I will not be held captive, I will not stop living. When I find myself passing through the valley of death, I will not stop. I will follow the shepherd. Rev. Phil Greenwald affirmation of faith Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is one true church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare: We believe in God the Father, infinite in wisdom, power, and love, Whose mercy is over all His works, and Whose will is ever directed to His children s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death.

3 We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and help in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen. gloria Patri MEINEKE Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. Call to Prayer The peace of the Lord be with you. And also with you. Rev. David Poteet Choral Call to Prayer Yea, though I walk in death s dark vale, yet will I fear no ill; for thou art with me, and thy rod and staff me comfort still. Pastoral Prayer the lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Choral response Anthem arr. Earlene Rentz He Leadeth Me Chancel Choir Candace Fish, piano Eric Bradford, conductor He leadeth me! O blessed thought! O words with heavenly comfort fraught! What-e er I do, where-e er I be, still tis God s hand that leadeth me. He leadeth me, He leadeth me, by His own hand He leadeth me; His faithful follower I would be, for by His hand He leadeth me. Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom, sometimes where Eden s bowers bloom, by waters still, o er troubled sea, still tis His hand that leadeth me. Lord, I would place my hand in Thine, and never murmur nor repine. Content, whatever lot may be, since tis Thy hand that leadeth me. He leadeth me, He leadeth me, by His own hand He leadeth me. His faithful follower I would be, for by His hand, His mighty hand, for by His hand my God leadeth me. Amen. life at st. luke s dedication of tithes and offerings Rev. Phil Greenwald Rev. Wendy Lambert offertory arr. Peter J. Wilhousky Battle Hymn of the Republic Chancel Choir and Congregation Boulevard Brass Candace Fish, piano Eric Bradford, conductor

4 Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword; His truth is marching on. Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on! I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps; they have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence in the dim and flaring lamps, His day is marching on! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, with a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me. As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free, while God is marching on! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on! Amen! Amen! Doxology OLD 100th Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him all creatures here below; praise Him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Call to SCripture PSALM 23 My shepherd is the Lord, nothing indeed shall I want. Stephanie Greenwald the psalms Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4) Congregational response My shepherd is the Lord, nothing indeed shall I want. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Sermon Rev. Wendy Lambert For Thou Art With Me From the Sermon Series: The Lord Is My Shepherd invitation to ChriStian DiSCipleShip If you desire to become a member of St. Luke s United Methodist Church, please refer to the announcement insert for additional information. hymn 698 NATIONAL HYMN God of theages God of the ages, whose almighty hand leads forth in beauty all the starry band of shining worlds in splendor through the skies, our grateful songs before Thy throne arise. Thy love divine hath led us in the past; in this free land with Thee our lot is cast; be Thou our ruler, guardian, guide, and stay, Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen way. From war s alarms, from deadly pestilence, be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense; Thy true religion in our hearts increase; Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace. Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way; lead us from night to never-ending day; fill all our lives with love and grace divine, and glory, laud, and praise be ever Thine.

5 sending forth Rev. Wendy Lambert We are sheep with a shepherd who loves us; In the face of death, we will not fear. Christ will not leave us, His strength and mercy comfort us. It is used in movies, recited in prayers, and read at funerals. But sometimes a verse can become so familiar that we fail to hear the words anymore. While the 23rd Psalm might be comforting in times of grief and death, it is actually all about life. God wants to care for us as a shepherd cares for his sheep. Join us for a new look at a familiar passage. Spread the Word You can help share God s Love and Bring Hope to the World, simply by sharing St. Luke s posts on social media! It s simple! We invite you to click on St. Luke s posts on Facebook and Twitter and like, share, or comment on posts you enjoy. It truly is a powerful way to share Christ with others. Thank you in advance for helping share God s love!
