FELLOWSHIP PRAYER GROUP Fellowship Prayer Group meets every Wednesday from 7:00-8:00 P.M. in the Daily Chapel. SACRAMENTAL LIFE Reconciliation: Celebrated on Saturday from 4:00-5:00P.M., or by appointment with the priest; Parish Penance Services are celebrated during Advent and Lent. Anointing of the Sick: The sacrament of the healing is available at any time to all who are seriously ill, hospitalized or preparing for surgery, as well as those of advanced age. Please contact the parish office to make arrangements for the priest to administer the sacrament. If it is an emergency, please call Ext 14. Parish Registration: Is requested of all individual persons and families who worship regularly with us on Sundays and who intend to participate in the life of our parish with their time, talents, and treasures. For more information, call Deacon John at Ext 12. Registration is necessary as well as for the issuing of sponsor certificates. Matrimony: Contact the parish office at least 6 months before the prospective date. Baptism: Baptism Preparation Class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:30PM in the church. Baptisms are held on Saturday at 12:00Noon and Sunday at 2:00PM. Call the parish office to register for class and to schedule Baptism.

Neither is it small to God, if we have given what we could. ~Saint Gregory of Nazianzus PASTOR S CORNER SAINT JUDE OUR PATRON SAINT The tradition of devotion to St. Jude goes beyond a simple Bible story; in fact, it is a reflection of the ability of ordinary people to call upon their powerful faith to triumph over seemingly impossible odds in their daily lives. Saint Jude was then called to be one of Jesus Twelve Apostles, and began preaching the Good News of Jesus to Jews throughout Galilee, Samaria, and Judea. St. Jude is traditionally depicted carrying the image of Jesus in his hand or close to his chest. This idea comes from a Biblical story in which King Abgar of Edessa (a city located in what is now southeast Turkey) asked Jesus to cure him of leprosy and sent an artist to bring him a drawing of Jesus. Impressed with Abgar's great faith, Jesus pressed his face into a cloth and gave it to St. Jude to take to Abgar. Upon seeing Jesus' image, the King was cured and he converted to Christianity along with most of the people under his rule. This cloth is believed to be the famous Shroud of Jesus which is currently on display in Turin, Italy. St. Jude is often shown in paintings with a flame around his head. This represents his presence at Pentecost, when he received the Holy Spirit with the other apostles. In the Middle Ages, St. Bernard of Clair Vaux (France) was a renowned devotee of St. Jude, as was St. Bridget of Sweden who, in a vision, was encouraged by Jesus to turn to St. Jude with faith and confidence. He told her that, in accordance with Jude's surname, Thaddeus (which means generous, courageous, and kind), "he will show himself to be the most willing to give you help." Devotion to St. Jude began again in earnest in the 1800's, starting in Italy and Spain, spreading to South America, and finally to the U.S. (originally in the Chicago area) in the 1920's. Novena prayers to St. Jude helped people, especially newly-arrived immigrants from Europe, deal with the pressures caused by the Great Depression, Second World War, and the changing workplace and family life. 3 RCIA Do you know an adult who has never been baptized, confirmed, or received First Eucharist? Is there a spouse or friend who has been pondering becoming a Catholic but needs a gentle nudge? Is there a possibility that you will be asked to become a godparent of a niece or nephew at Baptism or their Confirmation sponsor? Are you baptized but have had no religious education? Now is the time! The three sacraments of initiation, Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, are required for a Catholic to be fully initiated into the Church. They are also required for someone to act as a godparent or sponsor for the Baptism or Confirmation of someone else. Our RCIA process is, above all, a tool of education and formation in the Catholic faith. Apart from preparation for the sacraments, anyone can join the classes to just brush up on Catholic teachings or to fill in the gaps on a particular topic. CATHOLIC DOORS OF THE SACRED Father Raymond T. Gawronski, S.J. Q. "At what point of the Mass when someone arrives after it has started, is it too late to receive Holy Communion?" A: I would like to point out that there is no right answer to your question. If I say it is allowed to arrive late up to a certain point of the Holy Mass, this will provide the less fervent souls with an excuse to arrive late. Attending Holy Mass means accepting the Lord Jesus' invitation to participate in His great Banquet. It is like responding to a King's invitation to join him at a feast. Such an invitation means being there to eat a five course meal that includes the soup, the appetizer, the salad, the dinner or main entree, and the dessert. Would it be polite to arrive late? Would it be polite to tell the King that you do not care for the soup and/or the appetizer? Or would it be polite to skip the dessert and leave early? All of these behaviors would be rude. To arrive late at Mass is not just a matter of fulfilling one's Sunday obligation, it is an act of love and respect for the Lord Jesus who is gathering His children to share in the great moment during the Holy Mass when He will become physically present among the faithful. Each and every part of the Holy Mass is important, inseparable from one another. Prior to Vatican II, some theologians taught that arrival before the gospel was necessary to fulfill one's Sunday obligation. The Catholic Church no longer supports this teaching. Its emphasis is now on the overall unity of the Holy Mass. If one has a valid reason for arriving late, such not being a regular habit, then the Lord may excuse him/her. This may be because of unexpected road conditions, a severe storm, waiting for a train to clear the tracks, etc... But if arriving late means arriving at Church after the consecration, in truth, one has not attended Holy Mass, should not receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, and if on a Sunday (and if it is possible), he/she should go to another Mass
