3 A Message from: Sister Mary Alyce September MARCH 24, 16, A little bit of this and a little bit of that.. The 4 th Degree Knights of Columbus at Saint Luke Church are hosting the annual 4th Degree Exemplification Mass next Saturday, March 30, at the 4:30 p.m. Mass. All 4 th Degree Knights from the diocese are invited to this Mass. Msgr. Robert Siffrin, pastor of St. Edward Church and a 4 th Degree Knight, will preside at the liturgy. All are welcome to support these men in their commitment to the Church. Next Sunday, March 31, four young men and women from Saint Luke Church will be confirmed by Bishop Murry at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Christine Church. They have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation for two years through participation in the CCD classes which they attend weekly. Please keep Christopher Lattanzio, Olivia Pickens, Kathleen Sullivan and Andrew Yocum and their sponsors in your prayers. Please pick up a Bishop s Appeal envelope from the flyer holder in the narthex and complete it, if you have not already done so. Either mail it or place it in the Sunday collection basket. If you donate through WeShare, you don t need to complete a form. The diocese is looking for participation by all registered parishioners from all the parishes in the diocese. DONATE-- -PRAY---VOLUNTEER. Kolachi orders are being taken now. There are kolachi forms on the flyer holder in the narthex. They are orange so you can t miss them! The last day to order is Monday, April 1. Rice Bowls are available in the narthex for anyone who chooses to make this a part of their Lenten almsgiving. Rice Bowl donations will be collected at the Liturgy on Holy Thursday. The Saint Luke Mother s Day Raffle is coming soon. In 2018 Saint Luke Parish held a Father s Day Raffle; this year it s Mom s turn. Tickets will be mailed the week of April 1. There will be daily weekday drawings for $50 starting on April 22; Sunday drawings are for $100. The Grand prize of $500 will be drawn on Mother s Day, May 12. Details will be in the mailing. Watch for it. Keep up on what s happening.if you don t make it to Saint Luke Church some weekend, you can read the weekly church bulletin on the MyParish app or on the Saint Luke website ( Of course, we want to see everyone each week here at church but life happens some weeks. There are two seats available at the Saint Luke table for the Thursday, April 4 First Friday Club luncheon, which is held at Avion on the Water, beginning with lunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by the presentation from 12:00-1:00 p.m. The speaker for April is Bishop Nelson Perez, the Bishop of Cleveland. Please let me know if you are interested in attending. These monthly events are an opportunity to expand our vision of Church beyond the Saint Luke community. There are usually four seats available each month and there is no charge for parishioners because the parish purchases tickets for four people each month. Your first quarterly payment should be made on or before March 30; second quarter on or before June 30; third quarter on or before September 30th; and fourth on or before December 31st. 25th, 40th, 50th and over Wedding Anniversary Celebration The Diocese of Youngstown will sponsor a Wedding Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, June 2, 2:00 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown, honoring couples observing their 25th, 40th, 50th and over wedding anniversaries in The Wedding Anniversary Celebration will include Mass with Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., renewal of marriage vows and a personalized certificate for each couple. (Following the Mass, there will be a reception for the couples and their families in the Cathedral Hall). You must make reservations in advance for this event by contacting MaryAnn at the parish office before April 23rd.

4 KOLACHI BAKE NEWS: The Kolachi callers have begun to make their calls. If you have not received your call yet or would like to revise your order please call the parish office at Kolachi callers are reminded to return their call lists on or before March 25th. St. Luke Parish has been asked to join together with parishes throughout the Diocese of Youngstown in offering our support to the 2019 Annual Bishop s Appeal. Our financial need is $4.2 million. The Saint Luke Parish goal this year is $65, There are many ways in which you can participate. Please PRAY for the success of the Annual Bishop s Appeal. Your prayers are meaningful and critical to our success as a Church family. DONATE to the Appeal. VOLUNTEER your time and talents to any of the ministries of the Church. Use the response card you received in the mail OR use an envelope found in the narthex to respond. Please submit a response card or envelope even if you are unable to make a gift of any dollar amount. Your response will count towards our parish participation goal. We ask every family to prayerfully participate in the Annual Appeal. If you use WeShare for your donation, Saint Luke will send a list of WeShare contributors to the Bishop's Appeal office at the diocese. You do not need to complete a card or an envelope. To date 67 families have responded with pledges totaling $9, Thank you in advance for your reflection and generous response. SENIOR GOLF LEAGUE: Anyone interested in joining Saint Luke s Golf League can contact Mike Banks at Practice rounds begin on April 4th at 8:30am at the Mill Creek Gold Course. Invite a friend for fun and fellowship. The Altar and Rosary is taking a bus trip to Rivers Casino on Tuesday, April 30th. The bus will leave St. Luke parking lot at 9am and leave the Rivers at 4pm. (Luke 13:7) We can all be like the barren fig tree at times. Do you cling to what you have or do you generously share with others? How will you respond when God asks you what you have done with all the gifts He has given you? Remember, not only are we called to be generous, we are called to develop and nurture our gifts and return with increase. VOCATIONS: Most likely, we will never experience God speaking to us in a burning bush. But he does speak to us in the quiet of our prayer where he places in our hearts his call for us. That like Moses, young people will enter more deeply into conversation with the Lord in prayer as they seek to discover their vocations in Christ, we pray to the Lord. In families, there are those who don t live up to our expectations. Imitate the gardener and give them more time and help. Don t cut them out of your life. Love asks us to be connected, not productive.

5 As we continue on our journey into the desert with Jesus for Forty Days to find our true selves again in him, to deepen our faith in him and to die and rise with him to a new level of life, Saint Luke Parish offers these opportunities to grow in spirit: Reconciliation every Wednesday following the 5:30pm Mass. Wednesday Evening Mass: Mass will be celebrated at 5:30. Additional opportunities listed in upcoming bulletins. Soup Suppers every Wednesday evening in the Martha and Mary Room at 6pm. Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent at 6pm in the Church. Saint Anthony Novena following the 8am Mass on Tuesdays beginning March 19th. Please make time for this sacred time of the year! On Wednesdays of Lent, we will have our Soup Suppers in the Martha and Mary Room, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Why not volunteer to bring a pot of soup or a loaf of bread to share. Bring the family, your place settings, and put the money saved on dinner in your Rice Bowl. EASTER ENVIRONMENT You can send in your Altar Decoration envelope at any time. For a minimum donation of $10.00 you can list up to THREE names on the envelope. If you send more than three names, only the first three will be published. Lists will appear in the Easter Sunday bulletin, therefore you are asked to turn in your envelopes before April 15th. CRS RICE BOWL: Encounter the Dhathcroos Family: The Dhathcroos family returned home, after fleeing violence in their country, to build a prosperous farm and became a viral contributor to their community. Area Communal Penance Services Communal Penance Services will take place on Sunday, March 31st at 3pm Saint at Charles Borromeo, Boardman. The service allows individual confessions within the context of community, preparation, and thanksgiving. Father Dailey is The John Cardinal Foley Chair of Homiletics and Social Communications and Professor of Theology at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, PA. Part of the Wisdom Literature of the Old Testament, the Book of Job raises the perennial question of God and the meaningfulness of human life in the midst of suffering. This mission offers a thought-provoking synopsis of the story and suggests several spiritual lessons drawn from it that enable us to hear God, know God, and fear God as we journey through Lent.
