SAINT JOHN BAPTIST DE LA SALLE, PRIEST; MEMORIAL: APRIL 7 St John Baptist de la Salle was born at Rheims, France, in 1651; he opened his first school for poor children in 1679 in Rheims, and later in Paris and Rouen. He formed a religious congregation to carry out the work of Christian education, insisting on a life of poverty, penance and prayer. He met with much opposition from his companions. He died 1719, at Rouen. PRAYER: Father, you chose Saint John Baptist de la Salle to give young people a Christian education. Give your Church teachers who will devote themselves to helping your children grow as Christian men and women. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. This is an opportunity to unite with all Catholics in our Diocese to share our blessings and to share God s love with each other. Remembering that a gift to this Appeal benefits both, our parish and our Diocese, please give generously, as God has given to you. In particular, bear in mind that any funds raised above our goal will be returned to us. Wednesday, April 5th will be the 5th of the Lenten Services planned by the Mendota Church Women. Devotions and discussions will be led by the St. John s Lutheran Church Women. Give Up a Bad Habit for Lent is the title of the chapter used from the book by Dr. James W. Jim Moore for this Wednesday Lenten Service. Kim Able will speak about Nightingale s. Please try to attend this service and bring your friends. A light continental breakfast will be served to all those attending. A thank you to all who have made the attempt to come and share in these services. All services are held at First United Methodist Church located at 100 East Sixth Street. The church is handicapped accessible.
