With God the Father as His help, Jesus does not shield His face from buffets and spitting. Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11 The beautiful ancient hymn describing Jesus, which St. Paul quotes here, was composed independently of the Epistle. From her beginning, the Church has always recognized the humility practiced by the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. The Passion Narrative: Luke 22:14-23:56 Jesus farewell speech at a meal opens St. Luke s passion narrative, followed by all those depictions of Jesus suffering and the disciples disloyalty at this crucial time. Meanwhile, Jesus continues to associate with sinners, even from the cross. His splendid vindication awaits. SANCTUARY CANDLE The Sanctuary Candle burns in memory of Frank DeFelice requested by Debora and John McConnell St. Bernadette Pray for Us Feast Day April 16th Millions of people have come to the spring Bernadette uncovered for healing of body and spirit, but she found no relief from ill health there. Bernadette moved through life, guided only by blind faith in things she did not understand as we all must do from time to time. (Excerpt from

4 FISCAL CORNER In the spring of 2017 we conducted an increased offertory program here at St. Ignatius. We are blessed with many generous parishioners who offer their time, talents and financial resources for the good of the parish. To insure our financial strength, expand our programs in order to continue serving our families, and to continue to make the improvements around the parish, we require regular financial support from all of our parish families. The method we use for receiving this support is our Sunday offertory. Thanks to you, our Increased Offertory Program here at St. Ignatius was a great success. We saw an average increase of almost 20% in our Sunday collections. In addition, we have also seen increases in our online parish giving. Unfortunately, as with all increased offertory programs, the level of giving tends to decline over time. The key now is to keep up, and even possibly increase our current level of giving. We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of sustained, regular giving, in order to keep the great things happening here at St. Ignatius. This season of lent would be a wonderful opportunity to reflect upon the gifts you give to your parish. Thank you all for your generous support and your dedication to St. Ignatius. 7 Today is Palm Sunday and marks the beginning of Holy Week and is an important Christian festival around the world. Palm Sunday is a commemoration of Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem, coming in peace and rising on a donkey and His entry coincided with the Jewish festival of Passover. He was met by crowds of followers and supporters who lined the road into the city and waved branches cut from palm trees. They laid palm fronds on the road and even laid down their cloaks for Jesus to ride over. This entry into Jerusalem fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies promising that God s Messiah would enter the holy city and go to the temple. Are you ready to welcome Jesus? Will you be cheering and waving palm branches for the King of Kings? Are you ready to spend the week striving for holiness? Spy Wednesday when Judas conspired with the Sanhedrin to betray Jesus? Holy Thursday, the anniversary of the Last Supper and institution of the Eucharist? Good Friday, celebrating the Crucifixion and death of Our Lord ( our salvation), and Easter Sunday celebrating the Resurrection of Our Lord ( our future and the revelation of our salvation)? This is a great week to repent, repair, pray, fast, abstain and celebrate. Praise you Jesus. St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us. When battered by life's storms, or immersed in a dense fog of suffering and uncertainty, we may feel alone and unequipped to handle the circumstances. Yet with words that echo through thousands of years into the corners of our hearts, the Lord says to us, Do not fear: I am with you (Isaiah 41:10). It is documented that one of the most often phrases repeated in the Bible is some form of be not afraid ; in fact, 366 times, one for each day of the year including leap year! We all suffer; we all know those who suffer, whether family, friends or neighbors. We all pray for them. But, how often do we reflect on the Corporal works of mercy? Feed the hungry; give drink to the thirsty; clothe the naked; give shelter to travelers; visit the sick; visit the imprisoned; bury the dead. Jesus tells us that it is these things on which we shall be judged; He was asked when? He replied, when you did it for the least of one of these, you did it to me. We further need to understand that there is a salvific purpose to suffering. Whether for us or for others we know not, but in our respect for life, we respect what happens during life as perhaps being part of God s plan and we accept it as He accepted His Cross of our sins for our ultimate salvation. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us. Intercessory Prayer: For all whose lives are in jeopardy: May they come to know that God never abandons His children, but remains always at their side; We pray to the Lord. Book 'n Bean Do you wish you had more time to read great books? How about one per month? Our discussion group always welcomes new members so please join us on the dates listed below to review our selected book of the month. We meet in the Religious Ed Office across from the School Cafeteria from 7:30pm - 8:45pm for a relaxed discussion. Bring your own beverage.
