Sincerely, Geri Doll & Lindsey Hellwig The Divine Conspiracy Brent is teaching a Wednesday night class on a book of the Bible or a book of interest. Our first book of the Bible will be the book of Psalms. We will be looking at the Psalms through the lens of Walter Brueggemann. Brueggemann classified the Psalms as Psalms of Orientation, Psalms of Disorientation, and Psalms of Reorientation. In this class we will even write our own psalms according to these classifications. And then in October we will be looking at a Book of Interest entitled, The Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard as part of our congregational wide DVD study. Small group sign-ups will happen on September 20 and 27 in The Well. John Ortberg interviews Dallas Willard on his seminal book The Divine Conspiracy that reveals what God is up to in Jesus Christ. Dallas Willard was the professor of Philosophy at USC. You can purchase this book on Amazon or Christian Books Distributor. We will even have some for sale. This DVD based study comes with a study guide. We will have a facilitator training on September 20 following the 2 nd service in Hobbs. 5 Activities & Announcements Call for Craft Supplies! The supply room needs a little help. We will use the following items for our planned craft activities in the coming months: buttons, egg cartons, empty plastic containers with lids, old magazines, catalogs or newspapers, paper tubes (from gift wrap, paper towels or toilet paper), empty shoe boxes, used gift wrap and cards and wallpaper samples. Please consider bringing them from home to the church office. The children of First Church will repurpose these items in a creative way. There is a sign for needed supplies and a box for the items in the hallway. Thank you for your help! Facilitator s Training Facilitator s Training for the small groups study of The Divine Conspiracy will be held today at 12:00 in the Hobbs room. Theological Themes in Literature Theological Themes in Literature will meet at 11:45 a.m., the third Thursday of each month in the Reading Room. For October the book is Still Alice. Family Movie Night Family Movie Night was a huge success with over 50 in attendance! Our next family movie is Friday, September 25, at 6:00 p.m. in The Well. The movie we are showing is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Teachers and Teaching Assistants Needed for our Children and Youth Do you remember when we had the Logos program every Wednesday night? Do you remember the table parents, these people were such an important part of the children s ministry because the children became acquainted with their table parents and then recognized them at church and other church gatherings. Intergenerational relationships serve an important role within the church family, creating ties between our young and older members. The children and youth are looking for a few people who can make a commitment of 1 to 1 ½ hours each Wednesday for 10 weeks. That s only 10 to 15 hours over a 4 month time period. Children-Need 2-4 teachers or teaching assistants from 6-7:30 p.m. Youth-Need 2 teachers from 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Artists or people with scrapbooking experience would be great (but not necessary) because we are venturing into bible journaling. After the Time with Children, kindergarten and younger-aged children are invited to go to the nursery (room C111); children 1st 5th grade are encouraged to stay with their parents for the remainder of the service. If your first grade or older child is having a difficult time sitting through church, you are welcome to worship in the McComb Room outside the NW doors of the Sanctuary, which has a TV broadcasting the service live. We also have children s worship bags (cloth bags outside the Sanctuary doors) to help children in worship.
