1 THE WEEKLY MESSENGER 1358 South Lake Drive Lexington, SC Week of February 25, 2018 The 3 rd Sunday in Lent While we will hear the story of how Jesus cleared the Temple in the Gospel lesson, the Old Testament lesson brings us the 10 Commandments from Exodus. The confirmation class has been studying the 10 Commandments these past weeks and has put together a video based upon the flight safety videos done by airlines to inform passengers how to be safe in flight. Our confirmands will help us think about how to be safe in church. Come and enjoy a light-hearted way to think about God s love for us embedded in the 10 Commandments! On Sundays, we will consider God s gift of Holy Baptism. Traditionally, Lent was the 40-day period leading up to Easter in which converts prepared to be baptized. They studied the catechism and learned what baptism means. We shall study that one part of the catechism ourselves. The themes for the up-coming Sundays are: 1 st Sunday The Promise of Water 2 nd Sunday The Promise of Faith 3 rd Sunday The Promise of Foolishness 4 th Sunday The Promise of Grace 5 th Sunday The Promise of Suffering 5

8 Nursery The nursery is available during church service hours. Please come in the side door by the choir room. If you need to speak with someone about where to go for the nursery ask an usher to assist you. FOOD PANTRY & BACK PACK MINISTRY Our food pantry and backpack ministries need volunteers. Would you be willing to assist us with this vital ministry? Please contact the church office and speak with Sharon if you would like to help Food Pantry & Backpack Items Needed: Small raisins, canned pasta, jelly, small canned ham, sauce and pasta. Every Monday from 9:30-4PM. You are not required to be here all day. If you have a project you would like to work on or get assistance with... drop in and bring your lunch! These bottles, with a sheet listing medical and emergency information for loved ones and emergency help. These should be filled out and placed in BOTH your auto glove box and in your refrigerator, with the also enclosed magnet to be placed on the outside. This will help emergency rescuers identify meds and family. There are also 911 information sheets which are self explanatory. Please help yourself to as many as you need for family and friends. 12
