All: One: All: We need not look up to find God; we need only look around: within ourselves, beyond ourselves, into the eyes of one another. We need not listen for distant thunder to hear God; we need only listen to the music of life, the words of children, the questions of the curious, the rhythm of a heartbeat. 3 THE TEXT Selections from Ruth, I Samuel, Job, II Kings, Luke, Acts, Proverbs, and John TEXT TALK Friendship as Spiritual Practice Pam Driesell PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE During our time of prayer this evening, worshippers are invited to move in silence to any or all of the prayer stations listed below and then return to their seats for silent reflection. Prayers of Thanksgiving at the Communion table. To offer prayers of gratitude for a life-giving friendship that has blessed you, write the name(s) of the people for whom you are thankful, and put them in one of the empty chalices at either end of the table. Prayers of Confession at a table on the chancel (front of the sanctuary). To offer prayers of confession in relation to broken relationships or friendships that are difficult or need to be healed, write the names of those people and then put them into the baptismal bowl to be held in the waters of God s steadfast love, healing, and forgiveness. Prayers of Intercession at the table with candles. Here, as you say prayers for friends in any kind of need, you may light a candle. Prayers of Commitment at the table in the narthex (area just outside the sanctuary). During the service you may feel the Spirit nudging you to initiate, renew, restore, or deepen a particular friendship. At this table, as you prayerfully commit a course of action to God, you are invited to take tea bags as a reminder of your commitment. For those who do not wish to drink wine, grape juice is in the outer rim of the trays. When passing the bread to your neighbor, say, This is the Bread of Life.
