If we build shiny buildings or have beautiful music but don t lead people to Jesus then we have failed in our mission. I have been looking for a practical way for us to pray and study and grow in our Catholic Faith. While I was working in Rome my spiritual director gave me a book to read. It was called The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic. The four signs are prayer, study, generosity, and evangelization. It is a great Catholic book, but it is so much more than a book. The ideas and concepts that fill its pages will change your life and transform our parish. I wondered about how to get a copy in the house of each family at St. Francis Xavier. I proposed this idea to our local Knights of Columbus Council. Because of their desire to see Jesus in the center of our lives they voted to place a book in each household. We are thankful for our Henry T. Ross Council #1939 for their generous work of evangelization and to DynamicCatholic.com for their ministry. Gathering in small groups to pray and study is at the heart of being Christian. Small groups were at the center of life for the first Christians, and small groups are essential to the revitalization of the Catholic Church in the 21st century. I encourage you to find one or two friends or families to study this book with. We will post a study guide in the bulletin and on our website ( The books are available for free after all the masses this weekend. (PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE ONE PER HOUSEHOLD SO PLEASE SHARE!) Please jump in with the prologue and Chapter One Incredible Possibilities and we all grow closer to Jesus Christ! Let s try to finish Chapter One by Oct. 31. Here are the Discussion Questions for the Prologue and Chapter One. 1. What idea from the first chapter of the book impacted you the most? 2. How do you sense God is calling you to grow at this time in your life? 3. Which of the Four Signs Prayer, Study, Generosity, and Evangelization is the strongest in your life today? 4. Which of the Four Signs is the weakest in your life today? Why? 5. How can you apply the concept of continuous improvement in your life to grow in the Four Signs? 6. We are going to take a bus to the Shrine of Our Lady of Leche in St. Augustine, celebrate mass and have lunch and tour the Cathedral. This annual fundraiser helps cover the cost of educating and enriching students at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. Sponsorships for the event are also available at varying levels, and we are in need of donations for the silent auction. For more information call extension 12 or sfxcym05@gmail.com. Family Rosary Crusade. The pilgrim statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe would like to visit your home. She travels through the year. The goal of the family rosary crusade is to promote praying the rosary in the homes. Pamphlets on how to pray are included. The image stays with your family for a week. When the week is up bring back Our Lady of Guadalupe to the Christian Formation Center. Call ext. 12 to schedule your week. The family that prays together stays together. Special thanks to Eileen Singleton and Ginger Dorcas! We have an outstanding Diocesan Newspaper called the Southern Cross that keeps us abreast of Catholic news in South Georgia. If you are a registered member of SFX you should be receiving this newspaper. We are assessed $10 for each of our households to assist with the newspaper. We take up a collection every year to help pay this cost. If you have not yet made a contribution please use the envelopes in the pews. You can put this envelope in with the first collection. We know what wonderful cooks there are in our community and hoping you will share your gift for this fundraiser. Goodies can be dropped off on Friday October 23 rd 4:00 pm 8:00 pm and Saturday October 24 th after 7:00 am. Mass for the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (All Souls): Mass in St. Joseph Chapel Monday Nov. 2 at 7:00 a.m. Mass in main church Nov. 2 at 6:00 p.m. St Francis Xavier Crafters Guild When: Tuesdays 7:00pm-9:00pm Where: St Joseph Room in the Hall Everyone is welcome. We are an interdenominational group. No fees. All types of crafts and ideas are shared. The guild also provides: hats for preemies, hats for cancer patients, leg warmers and lap rugs for nursing homes. Anyone wishing to donate these items is greatly appreciated. Classes are relaxed and informational, providing an atmosphere where you can ask questions, discuss beliefs and discern if the Catholic faith is what you have been missing in your life. Perhaps you are a Catholic and wish to learn more about your Faith, come join us each week, or come to just those classes that pique your interest. Our next class is Monday, October 26, 7:00 8:30pm in the St Anne Room of Xavier Hall. Our topic is: The Rosary. In the time of family sickness, death or special need, parishioners are asked to notify the Church Office. If requested, Holy Communion will be brought to anyone desiring to receive the Eucharist but are unable to attend Mass for serious reasons.
