1 1 Sunday, April 16, Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord RESURRECTION STATION I AM THE RESURRECTION is installed as the Resurrection Station in the Daily Chapel. It may seem that the Fourteenth Station of the Cross ends it all in the tomb. Nothing could be further from the truth of our faith. St. Paul declares if Christ has not been raised, vain is your faith. The Resurrection Station or the Fifteenth Station is the high point of the great saving action of Jesus Christ through His suffering, death and Resurrection. Even the most daunting challenges of life can never diminish or blur out the Resurrection Station (the Fifteenth Station). Pondering this Station renews and ignites our hope. Too often we can let tomb-like hopelessness possess us. As an Easter people, our Easter faith takes us beyond tomb-like hopelessness to be embraced by the Risen Lord in all our challenges. Our Risen Savior proclaims and declares I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE. EASTER GREETINGS from all the members of the Parish staff, school and pre-school faculty and staff. As a people striving to live the Lord s risen life in service to a people of resurrection, we thank you for the gift of your faith, support, friendship, and love in the Lord. Fr. Jorge, Fr. Liam, Fr. Richard, and I thank all who were involved in the preparation and presentation of the Holy Week services and now our Easter celebrations..blessing OF HOMES DURING EASTER TIME. EASTER HOLY WATER FROM THE BAPTISMAL POOL AVAILABLE AT CHURCH DOORS: Parishioners are invited to take the blessed Easter water to use in their homes for sprinkling. If containers are still available by the doors of the Church you may take a container, or you may bring your own container to take the blessed Easter water home from the pool. In some Parish communities it is customary for homes to be blessed during the Easter season. Here at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish we are encouraging our parishioners to practice this custom during Easter week. All who live in the house should be present for the special blessing of the home with Easter water (friends and neighbors may be invited). The leader should be a designated member of the household..the Ritual Prayer of Blessing for the Home. All make the Sign of the Cross. Leader: God fills our hearts and homes with peace. Blessed be the name of the Lord. All: Now and Forever. Leader: Christ, risen from the dead, is our hope, joy and comfort. May all who enter this home find Christ s light and love. Listen to the words of the holy Gospel according to Luke: (read from the Bible - Luke 24:28-32/reader will conclude with - This is the Gospel of the Lord.) All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Spontaneous prayers of intercession can be made while going from room to room or around the outside of the house. This prayer may be used at the front door. O God, make the door of this house wide enough to receive all who need human love and fellowship, narrow enough to shut out all the envy, pride and strife. Make its threshold smooth enough to be no stumbling block to children, nor to straying feet, but rugged and strong enough to turn back the tempter s power. God, make the door of this house the gateway to your eternal kingdom. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen. The house and rooms and family are to be sprinkled with holy water, a reminder of baptism during the Easter season. The procession and intercessions conclude with the Lord s Prayer. The leader then speaks the prayer of blessing. Lord, we rejoice in the victory of Your Son over death: by rising from the tomb to new life He gives us new hope and promise. Bless all the members of this household and surround them with Your protection that they may find comfort and peace in Jesus Christ, the Paschal Lamb, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. All make the Sign of the Cross and the leader concludes: May Christ Jesus dwell with us, keep us from all harm, and make us one in mind and heart, now and forever. Amen. THE MASS...PASSOVER MEAL EVERYDAY: As we observe our annual Passover time, it is well for us to remember that each day the Church lays before us our great Passover meal in the Mass. Is it possible for you, as a regular Sunday worshiper, to partake of the Passover meal through daily Mass once a week or a few times a week? The Lord who comes to us in the Living Bread of the Word and in the Living Bread of our Passover meal assures us that the gift He gives us is the gift of Himself, and through the gift of the Living Bread, the gift of life, which is forever. WELCOME HOME FOR EASTER: If your worship with us at our Parish this Easter puts you in the ranks of an occasional visitor or a newcomer, our Parish family is delighted that you joined us. We would like you to join us on a regular basis. If you are an occasional worshiper, alienated from God and the Church for whatever reason, consider your being with us this Easter as a new beginning. You have already take the first step - Welcome Home! The second step is simple - stay coming - we need you, and God loves you. You need to know and experience His love more and more, so the second step is simple - stay coming! Consider participating in the ACA series. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY NEXT SUNDAY: The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be prayed 15 minutes before all Masses next weekend. The Chaplet was a devotion promoted very much by St. John Paul II. In 2000, he declared the first Sunday after Easter to be observed as Divine Mercy Sunday. Pope Francis said at the canonization of Pope John Paul II a year ago, that his emphasis on Divine Mercy was a gift he gave us, but one that came from above. Then Pope Francis said, it is up to us as ministers of the Church to keep this message alive, especially in our preaching and gestures, in signs and pastoral choices - for example, deciding to give priority to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and, at the same time, to works of mercy. We are so blessed in our Church to have the Sacrament of God s mercy the Sacrament of Reconciliation/Confession. We are all sinners loved by God and constantly in need of God s mercy. His mercy becomes personalized to us through the Sacrament of Reconciliation/ Confession. Please note the three weekly times for the Sacrament of mercy on the cover of the Sunday bulletin.

2 2 AFTER-EASTER ALIENATED CATHOLICS ANONYMOUS: Inactive? Hurt? Angry? Alienated from God or the Church? Seeking peace? Come to the 6-part After-Easter Alienated Catholics Anonymous series. The series begins on Easter Monday evening, April 17th at 7pm in the Parish Activity Center. Sometimes, years of non-participation makes Catholics feel like strangers in their own church. This series will involve informal sharing, reflections from Catholics recently returned to full and active participation in their faith. It will also serve as an update on what Catholics believe. The series will address the needs of those who have entered into non-sacramental marriages and where there exists conflicts between their closest relationships and their Church. Registration is encouraged, but not required. Brochures on the series are available in the church vestibule and the parish office. These Monday evenings are open to all and will be facilitated by the Pastor. Capital Campaign Nears Finish Line Next weekend is Commitment Weekend for our Remember, Renew and Rediscover Jesus Christ campaign. Please take some time during the week to pray about how you can best support the campaign. Then, come to Mass next weekend prepared to make your decision. Thank you in advance for your support. Remember It s not how much you give but how much love we put into giving. ~ St. Teresa of Calcutta There are still several memorializations available including: Shrine of Our Lady $25,000 Shrine of St. John XXIII $15,000 Pews $3,000/$4,000/$6,000 Christian Education / Formation Scripture Reflection April 16, Easter Sunday Acts 10:34, Psalm 118:1-2 This is the day the Lord has made Psalm 118 rings out in the Church on this day of days that celebrates the resurrection. The liturgy is deeply penetrated with paschal, baptismal joy, for Christ has passed over from death to life, and the faithful, through baptism, pass over with him. The liturgy today begins with a blessing and sprinkling of water and includes a renewal of baptismal promises. Peter s preaching in the first reading presents the entire scope of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and its meaning for the world. Beginning with John the Baptist, Peter recounts the essential story of Jesus coming, preaching, overthrow of the powers of evil, his passion, death, and resurrection, and the forgiveness of sins which results from these events. He speaks as one of the chosen witnesses who ate and drank with Jesus after resurrection, thus emphasizing the real, physical nature of the resurrection. ***Have you seen a sign, a hint of the Resurrection in your life? In your family? Your community? The world? DID YOU KNOW Easter Sunday celebrates the day of re-creation, or the eighth day, Christ s glorious resurrection from the dead. Christ s resurrection is continually celebrated every Sunday. Facilitator Training Retreat: Lord Teach Me To Pray Deepen Your Prayer Life & Help Others Do The Same! April 22nd ~ Mt. Following the film, two scientists featured in it will give us a brief update on the current western water situation and also share some thoughts about how water and environmental concerns relate to their personal faith perspectives. Beyond the Mirage vividly tells the story of how Arizona and our neighboring western states are closely bound together by water. The film stands as both witness to the enormous challenges for water in the West, and testament to the resolve of those seeking a way forward in the wake of a 17-year drought. The film will be preceded by an optional potluck. Meatless (vegetarian/vegan) offerings are encouraged. (If you like, bring your own plate and cup to reduce waste.) Everyone is welcome & invited to attend, whether or not you bring a dish for the potluck.
