KONTAKION FOR THE PHARISEE & PUBLICAN IN TONE FOUR (**On this day Thou hast appeared**) Let us flee the Pharisee s * conceited vaunting; * let us learn the Publican s * humility, and cry with groans * unto the Savior: Thou Who alone * art swiftly reconciled, be gracious unto us. 2 Timothy my son, you have observed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions, and my sufferings; and what befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra. What persecutions I endured; yet from them all, the Lord rescued me. Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. THE GOSPEL (For Sunday of the Pharisee and Publican) The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. (18:10-14) The Lord spoke this parable: Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank Thee that I am not like other men, extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get. But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to Heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner! I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted. 4 Committee members needed Date Change: Heritage Festival will be held July Mark your calendar for the 2019 festival to be held Thursday to Sunday, July Throughout the years, our annual Heritage Festival would not have been possible without the love, support and encouragement of our parishioners. One of the most important roles of our festival is the work of a committee and we are looking for enthusiastic people to help plan and oversee this fourday event. This Ordination service will be held Sunday, March 3. Participation in our Choir at the Ordination will be dependent on several factors: First, knowledge and competence of the music in coordination with the choir. I may do things differently then how someone else has done it in the past or at another church, so therefore just knowing the music will not be adequate. You will need to know how we are singing the music. This means that if someone shows up to sing and has never rehearsed with us they will be asked to not sing. This is done so that we will have beautiful music as Fr. Anthony has asked. It is done so that there isn t chaos during the Liturgy. If you have friends that may be interested in singing please let them know that they must talk with me and they will need to attend rehearsals. Secondly, if there is a problem with attending rehearsals please speak with me. We may be able to work out another time to meet. This year, up to four awards for graduating high school seniors are available in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.
