Lord, protect our military as they sacrifice for us; bless them and their families for their continuing selflessness. The annual Mass of Remembrance will be next Saturday, November 7th. We will light a candle to honor all those whose funerals were held at St. Helen Parish during the past year. You may take the candle with your loved one s name on it at the conclusion of Mass you attend. INFANT JESUS SHOWER SIGN-UPS Believe it or not it is time to start to think about Infant Jesus Shower! Sign-ups continue this weekend through November 15 th. If helping a child in need is already part of your Christmas tradition join us in the music room to sign up again this year. If you have not taken part in this wonderful St. Helen tradition and would like more information please stop by the music room or call Amy Comer at FIRST FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Next Friday, November 6th is First Friday and our parish day of Eucharistic Adoration. Adoration begins at 10 AM in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and closes from 5-6 p.m. with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT Ladies, you won t want to miss this year s Advent by Candlelight on Sunday, November 29 in the Smith Building. Two sessions are available: 2:00pm or 6:30pm. Please plan to join us for an event full of visiting, beautiful music and delicious food. HOST FAMILIES NEEDED FOR CONFIRMATION RETREAT We are looking for families to host 2 or more students from NET Ministries. These evangelization team members will be here to facilitate our Confirmation Retreat. NET team members will need housing for the night of November 14th until lunch time on November 15th. Hosts will be asked to provide a place for them to sleep, 2 meals, and transportation if necessary. The Bazaar hours are 9 AM - 3:30 PM. In addition to multiple new vendors, several popular vendors from past years will be returning. No need to leave for lunch, this year the kitchen will be serving cabbage rolls, Russian Cabbage Soup, Chili, Caesar Salad and Holiday Salad! The kitchen will be open from 11 AM - 2 PM. Find unique gifts for everyone on your Christmas list at the Bazaar. DO YOU NEED A LOW GLUTEN HOST AT COMMUNION? If you have a wheat allergy, we have lowgluten hosts available in the glass dish on the table under the oil case. Please use the tongs to take a host and place it in the large pyx on the plate, and then take one of the white crosses on the table. At Communion time, stand in the priest s line. As you approach him, open your cupped hands to reveal the white cross, and he will know to give you one of the consecrated low-gluten hosts. If you have any questions, feel free to ask a deacon before Mass.

CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL S ACTION APPALACHIA Action Appalachia is an annual service program, formed by Carroll High School s seniors, to provide aid for the Campton Center in Kentucky. This year s seniors are collecting clothing for infants, children, and women, as well as for men and teens; gently used toys as well as brand new toys for Christmas gifts. These donations are vital to the community of Campton, which has no relief organizations such as Salvation Army or Goodwill to meet its needs. There is also a great need for canned soups and canned meats such as soups, cereal, tuna, peanut butter and Vienna sausage. You can bring your donations to the Carroll High School loading dock (located on the west side of the building) or in the case of extenuating circumstances; you can also arrange to have them picked up at your home by calling Carroll at extension 316 and leave a message for Mrs. Cathy Jackson or to: cjackson@carrollhs.org The deadline for all donations is Friday, November 13 th.

WHAT IS MERCY? WHAT IS FORGIVENESS? In proclaiming the upcoming Year of Mercy, which starts on December 8, Pope Francis wrote that the Mercy of God is The beating heart of the Gospel. (Misericordiae Vultus, 12) Parishioners are invited to prepare for the Year of Mercy by attending a special presentation of A Justice That Heals, a story of murder, faith, and forgiveness. This 60 minute film focuses on two families. The frightening part is that each family could be our own parents or siblings of the perpetrator as well as the victim. Fortunately, in this case neither family had to suffer their burdens alone. The film skillfully plays out the role of the faith community in providing support to both families as well as to the murderer. Mary Hallinan, an advocate for Restorative Justice and a Queen of Apostles parishioner, will facilitate a discussion of the film afterwards. Appropriate for high school ages and above. EVENING OF CONTEMPLATION: THE HOLY YEAR OF MERCY AND DANTE'S DIVINE COMEDY You and your friends are cordially invited to participate in an evening of contemplation focusing on the interconnection between the approaching Holy Year of Mercy and reading Dante's Divine Comedy at the Bergamo Center for Lifelong Learning on Monday, November 2, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Pope Francis has spoken of Dante Alighieri as "a prophet of hope, herald of the possibility of redemption, liberation and the profound transformation of every man and woman, of all humanity." Because Dante's trilogy is deeply imbued by a world-shattering vision of God's mercy in action, Bergamo is responding to the Holy Father's invitation to prayerfully explore this magnum opus of world literature throughout the Jubilee of Mercy with a series of contemplative retreats for which November 2 is a "primer."
