1 Advent & Christmas Journal Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative 17 Grove Street Lynnfield, MA The Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative Our Lady of the Assumption & Saint Maria Goretti Parishes ~ ~
2 During the season of Advent, we are invited to be still, to prepare ourselves and our hearts for the coming of our Lord at Christmas. Rarely though, during this time of year, is it easy to find time to be still and silent. To that end, we hope that this Advent & Christmas Journal will be a helpful resource to you. There is no right or wrong way to use this resource; however, the resource has been designed with scripture passages and the O Antiphons noted to use as a beginning point for reflection God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer. ~Mother Theresa Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative 17 Grove Street Lynnfield, MA 01940
3 Journal Page: _ Advent Reflections: The Practice of Lectio Divina
4 Lectio Divina ~ Lectio Divina is an ancient practice of praying with scripture. It s a slow, thoughtful and meditative practice that has been maintained by monastic communities. Traditionally, there are four movements of Lectio Divina, which include: 1. Lectio: Lectio Divina begins with listening and so the first movement, Lectio, is a slow, attentive, and gentle reading of scripture. 2. Meditatio: Meditatio, or Meditation, is the second movement in Lectio Divina. In Meditatio, we allow God s word to become something we take in and meditate on. Here, God s word becomes His word for us. 3. Oratio: The third movement in Lectio Divina is Oratio, or prayer. In this movement, we allow the word to touch us deeply. 4. Contemplatio: Contemplatio, or Contemplation, is the fourth movement. By contemplating on the word of God, we are asked to simply rest in God s love by letting go of our own words and enjoy being in the presence of God. Journal Page:
