Tickets are sold after all Masses and at the parish office during office hours. $15.00 per ticket/ cash bar 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal Come, Follow Me...and share the Word Please spend some time this week reflecting on the Annual Catholic Appeal brochure that you received with your bulletin. The Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledged campaign commitment where you can make a gift payable in installments. A pledge is a promise to make a gift over a span of time. Each pledge makes a different because all parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services to answer Jesus call to Come, Follow Me...and share the Word. Once we reach our parish goal of $35, in paid pledges, 100% of any additional funds come back to our parish to help fund our needs. If you received your pledge form in the mail, please complete it and mail it back or bring it to Mass next weekend. For those of you who did not receive a mailing or have not had time to respond, we will conduct our in pew pledge process at all Masses next weekend. Feast of our Patron Saint St. Peter Damian Thursday, February 21st With St. Peter Damian, let us pray O Holy Virgin, Mother of God, help those who beg your assistance. Turn to us in your love. We know, O Mary, that you are all kindness and that you love us with a loved that no other love can surpass. Turn toward us so that we may be with you in heaven. Be pleased to grant our prayer, for your beloved Son wishes to honor you by refusing nothing that you ask. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen Did you know? The incense used in the Catholic Church symbolizes prayers rising to heaven. It is also used to bless and purify. The Catholic Church has seven sacraments (Baptism, Penance, Confirmation, Holy Orders, the Eucharist (Holy Communion), Matrimony, and Anointing of the Sick). The word sacrament is from the Latin sacramentum, or solemn oath. Sacraments are symbols that connect the visible and invisible dimensions. 5 We are the Faith Formation Confirmation Students who are partnering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank to kick off the Share His Love Food and Fund Drive for This year marks the 3rd annual Share His Love Food and Fund Drive. This year our goal is 2,000 lbs. of food and $1, in monetary donations. As the Lenten season approaches, we are asking for your help once again to feed our friends and neighbors. Help us change the course of hunger by contributing your monetary or edible donations from February 13th through April 3rd. Canned goods and other nonperishable foods (no glass container, please) can be dropped off in the collection boxes located in the vestibule or in the Faith Formation Office. Most needed items: whole grain cereal, oatmeal, whole grain pasta, brown rice, canned fruit in juice, low sodium canned vegetables, instant breakfast drink mix (no sugar added), low sodium pasta sauces, low sodium soups, spices and seasoning, dry whole beans, lentils, canned chicken (in water), canned tuna (in water) all natural peanut butter. Monetary donations can be made at the Northern Illinois Food Bank website. Our fund raiser name is Share His Love Food and Fund Drive. May God bless all of you for your kindness and generosity. For more information on ministries please view our parish website or contact the parish office. Bible Study meets every Wednesday unless noted otherwise. Please join us Wednesday, February 20th after morning Mass at 9:10 am in Fellowship Hall, lower level of the Chapel and 7:00 pm in the St. John Paul II Resource Center, lower level of the Rectory. All women are welcome to join us in growing their faith & connection with God. Please join us Tuesday, February 19th at 6:30 pm in the St. John Paul II Resource Center (lower level of the Rectory). Come at 6:00 pm to socialize and get to know the ladies! The Divine Mercy Prayer group meets every Friday at 3:00 pm in the Chapel. If you would like to become a member please call the parish office. If you are in 7th through 12th grade please join us when we meet on Friday at 6:00 pm in the Youth Ministry Center located in the lower level of the Rectory. Bring a friend! All teens are welcome! Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time The first reading and the psalm take a somewhat different focus: trust in God, not people or things of this world. One who trusts in God is fortunate, like a plant that produces good fruit, sustained by living waters and currents of grace. Not so the wicked, who wither and vanish, blowing away like the illusions of their selfabsorption. Paul, in the second reading, confronts members of the early Christian community of Corinth who were doubting, or devaluing, belief in Jesus resurrection and the general resurrection of the dead. Depending on the material world in their spiritual pride, they believed that their righteousness was something they had achieved on their own. They felt self-sufficient, rich, not in need of the ongoing saving power of Christ's resurrection that completes the sacrifice of Good Friday through Easter, which is our true blessing. So, congratulations! Acknowledging our need for God, we are rich in the Kingdom love of our Father. Our hunger is satisfied by the sustaining nourishment of the Spirit. Our weeping is turned into dancing knowing that Jesus is with us in our sorrows, in fact knew them when he walked upon earth. Reasons enough for us to rejoice, always, even when people treat us badly. God s reward to us is the Kingdom, now and always. 6 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart for God loves a cheerful giver.
