2 2 The Church of St. George, Minnesota WELCOME to... THE CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE A Letter from the Pastor Thank you to all our visitors, guests and extended family members for joining us this weekend. Call the office at (952) or us at stgeorge@msn.com if you would like more information about the parish or to register. The twelve days of Christmas and the days that follow Epiphany now bring us to the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Today s liturgy recalls for us the inauguration to public ministry of the adult Christ at his baptism by John in the Jordan River. The first Luminous Mystery of the Rosary is the Baptism of the Lord. Though Jesus had no stain of sin to repent, he wished to insert himself in the religious life and traditions of his times. That aspect of John s baptism, which was a profession of dedication to God, was the focus of Jesus reason for baptism. Jesus also wished to associate himself with sinful humanity so that he could be in their midst announcing God s love and mercy for a sinful people. Divine Mercy comes to sinful humanity through the Redeemer. There is a beautiful, illuminated painting of Divine Mercy, featured at the corner of the Confessional in our church, that serves as an inspiration for and invitation to Reconciliation. In that place we can envision the power of Divine Mercy overflowing through the Sacrament of Penance, where merciful and loving forgiveness truly conquers all sin, division, and hatred. I offer my sincere thanks to all our parishioners and liturgical ministers who were involved in the preparations and services for the special liturgies of the Advent and Christmas Seasons. Special thanks are extended to our very talented parish music directors, Kelly and Alexa, the dedicated and inspirational choirs (adult and teen), cantors and instrumentalists, ushers, lectors, servers, greeters, Eucharistic ministers, and all those who decorated the church sanctuary, especially Lori Scherer, Carol Wegner, Karen and Dick Speeter, and Michelle Flannery. The Latino community sponsored a very beautiful Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with a bilingual Mass and dinner. Many of them spent a Novena of nights in prayerful preparation for that special day of honor to the Mother of God under her title as Patroness of the Americas. I have heard many wonderful comments from parishioners and visitors over the past two weeks, concerning all the liturgies and also the splendid Christmas decorations that include the large and impressive nativity set in front of the altar and the three tall, beautifully decorated trees in the church sanctuary. Your ministry of faithful service to your parish is both inspirational and appreciated! I also appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity at this time of year with regard to your many greeting cards and thoughtful gifts. I wish all of you and your families a gracefilled, happy and healthy New Year Fr. Mark Juettner Pastor Thank you to everyone who helped with decorating and filling liturgical roles over the Advent and Christmas seasons, particularly Lori Scherer and Carol Wegner for flower decoration, Karen and Dick Speeter for leading the tree decorating, Tom Barrett for wreath placement, our Latino community for placing the kings and camel, and Michelle Flannery for her beautiful decorating touches both large and small in the church, office, Fireside Room and Community Center. We are so grateful to all of you for your time and creativity!

3 3 THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD JANUARY 13, 2019 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS ************************** ST. GEORGE WOMEN S COUNCIL Next Meeting: February 7, 2019 at 6:30pm Next Meeting: February 7, 2018 Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast: Sunday, February 17th, 8:30am-11:30am Men: Are You Ready to Accept the Challenge? Our communities need strong Catholic men to answer the call to lead with faith, protect our families, serve others and defend our values. For over one hundred years, Knights of Columbus have done exactly that, standing up for the Church, serving the least among us, and strengthening our parishes and families. Eligible Catholic men can now join the Knights of Columbus online in a simple, streamlined process. As a member, you join a worldwide community of nearly two million men, including 41,000 here in Minnesota who stand together. Men have a duty to lead, protect, serve and defend. The world needs more committed, unified Catholic men to answer the call. Will you answer? Visit kofc.org/joinus to learn more about the many benefits of membership in the Knights of Columbus. FESTIVAL OF MUSIC 2019 Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 5pm Mark your calendars for this year s Festival of Music featuring the St. George Choir, Teen Choir and Cherub Choir! Mass at Cathedral & March for Life On Tuesday Jan 22nd Come and Join Us!!! Please join us for the Annual Prayer Service for Life at the St. Paul Cathedral. This prayer service commemorates the millions of lives lost to abortion and the many women and men wounded by abortion aftermath. Archbishop Bernard Hebda will be the presider this year. All are invited and welcome. Following the Prayer Service, plan on going to the State Capital to join in the 2019 Minnesota Citizen Concerned Life March. The march will begin at noon followed by a brief program at 12:30. Please set aside one hour to speak out for unborn children and their mothers! The St. Boniface Knights of Columbus will provide a bus to the St. Paul Cathedral and then to the state capital. The bus will leave the St. Boniface parking lot at 8:30 a.m. We will stop at Our Lady of the Lake in Mound and at Lund s in Wayzata. We will return at approximately 2:15 pm. For additional information call Jerry Mader at (612) NEW SIGN IN ADORATION CHAPEL Just as there was a new sign placed next to the confessional after it was blessed, we have also placed a new sign in the rededicated chapel which commemorates the recent visit of Archbishop Bernard Hebda who came to bless the Chapel of the Divine Will, the new tabernacle, and the new monstrance. The matching signs now displayed by the confessional and in the chapel both mark special moments when Archbishop Hebda visited our parish to bless new spaces and items - in 2016 for the confessional and in 2018 for the chapel, tabernacle and monstrance. These signs emphasize the centrality of the Sacrament of Penance and the Sacrament of Eucharist in our parish.
