5 MUSIC MINISTRY Kyle Davies, Director of Music Ministry and Liturgy Psalm Reflection My God, my God, O why have you abandoned me? Psalm 22: 89, 1718, 1920, 2324 Christ s selfemptying becomes his exaltation. A cry of abandonment by God becomes unrestrained praise of God. Truly, deathtoself undertaken out of love for God and others transforms who and how we are. These verses from Psalm 22 then become a word to the weary spoken by tongues that have been well trained in the words and examples of Jesus. May your singing of these verses from Psalm 22 give all who hear you the courage they need to enter Holy Week, aware of both the suffering and the exaltation to which it will lead. Psalm Reflection taken from Cry Out with Joy, published by GIA Publications, The St. Valentine s music ministry will be offering a Tenebrae service at 8:00pm on March 25 in the church sanctuary. This service Will feature the Rejoice Ringers and the Voices of the Spirit Choir. Join your voice with ours on Easter The Voices of the Spirit choir welcomes those who would like to sing with us at the 10:30am Easter morning mass on April 1st. The evening s entertainment will be the Bethel Bells a local singing group. Blessed Is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord Today we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The crowds waved palm and olive branches as Jesus rode into the city on a colt. They welcomed him as royalty, so moved were their hearts in faith and trust of God. Yet, while Christ s procession into the city is a moment of joy, the joy is fleeting as the coming days lead to the passion and death of Jesus. The central mysteries of our faith that we celebrate this week highlight for us the lengths to which God will go out of love for us. It is appropriate to ask ourselves, then, what lengths will we go to for God. As we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! it is not just our parishes that we should hope to be transformed. We should also hope that our hearts and transformed in love and service of God and others. How are we called to ambassadors of Christ, coming in his name to share the life and light of God with everyone we meet? BENEDICTINE OBLATES St. Vincent Archabbey has approved the formation of a new Benedictine Oblate deanery in the South Hills area dedicated to Blessed Columba Marmion. We invite you to our meeting on Sunday, April 8, at St. Louise de Marillac Church. Our presenter will be Fr. Isaac Haywiser, O.S.B., who is in residence to help Fr. Joe. Fr. Isaac will present the Benedictine vow of conversatio morum (Conversion of Heart). Fr. Isaac grew up in Bethel Park and attended St. Valentine Church with his parents and three brothers. He was ordained a priest in 2015 and has served in Campus Ministry at West Virginia University. Please arrive to be seated before 1:45 PM in the Bishop Leonard Room (directly under the church). Our meeting will begin with Daytime Prayer from Liturgy of the Hours and will end at 3:00 PM with an opportunity to participate in Divine Mercy devotions at 3:00 PM. All are welcome! 9
