SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m. In July and August Baptism will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. A required Baptism preparation meeting for parents meets on the first Monday of the month at 8:00 p.m. Godparents are welcome. Please register in advance for the class and Baptism. Godparent Pre-Requisites: Godparents must be practicing Catholics in good standing, 16 years of age or older, Baptized and Confirmed Catholic. 2 Page 2 READINGS FOR SUNDAY, JANUARY 20, 2019 SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Isaiah 62:1-5 Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Gospel: John 2:1-11 FOCUS: The Lord has betrothed himself to us in Christ Jesus and we are not abandoned. The wedding at Cana has Jesus at the heart of the celebration. He is present now as we gather to celebrate. Here today he bestows upon us his blessings and his gifts bringing forth faith and reassuring us of his fidelity and abundant grace. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In relaying the words of the Lord to Israel, Isaiah uses the image of a marriage to describe the relationship between God and his Chosen People. Saint Paul reminds us that the Spirit gives many different gifts to be used to build up the community. The Gospel tells the story of Jesus first miracle turning water into wine at the wedding feast at Cana. The generosity of God knows no limits - the miracle of Cana reminds us that whenever we faithfully do as God asks, He can change our gifts of water into wine. So if you d like a statement reflecting your giving to St. Mary s for 2018, please phone the parish office at and someone will send one on to you. If there s no one at the phones when you call, feel free to leave a voic message with pertinent information: who s requesting, address, and a phone number in case verification is needed. Robert Lauder in collaboration with The Office of Faith Formation will present the Catholic Novel series for the Spring of The series will begin on Monday, March 11 th at 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston. The cost of the series is $40. Friday Night Film Festival - Fr. Lauder and The Secretariat for Evangelization and Catechesis present: 56 th Friday Film Festival beginning on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Center in Douglaston. The cost is $25 for the series or $6 for a single film. And you will continue to receive special mailings and mailings at Christmas and Easter. CHURCH HANDICAPPED RAMP There is a ramp for handicapped access at the Church. It can be found off the parking lot, and goes around to the back of the building. We encourage you to use it if you have difficulty with the front steps.
