1 Generalate News Visit to Canada: The Residence Despins owned by the Catholic Health Corporation, Winnipeg gives home to various religious communities men and women and lay persons. The residents have built a loving and caring community among them as is noticeable in the dining room, liturgical services and in the hallways. There is a spirit of unity in diversity. The center organizes different activities for the members. The Visit to our Sisters in Winnipeg was a graced moment. I am very much touched by their sense of gratitude to God for their lives and mission. They continue to be mission through their very life of caring and loving hospitality. I was proud to hear that the Ursuline Sisters are blessings to the Residence Despins. They are blessings to the Ursuline Congregation. I had the opportunity to visit Quebec City, the Monastery of the Ursuline Sisters of the Canadian Union, the missionary land of St. Mary of the Incarnation. The Monastery is a group of 15 houses built at different times according to the needs. At present there are four communities within the Monastery with about 50 sisters. All the sisters come together for meals and prayer, but share daily life with their particular small community. Ursuline Sisters, Generalate, Rue Musin 1, 1210 Brussels 1

2 In September, they will move to a new residence as the number is declining and special care is required for the elder members. The Museum gives a glimpse of the missionary life of Mary of the Incarnation and the Sisters who continue the mission in Quebec. Everyday visitors and tourists visit the tomb of St. Mary of the Incarnation and the Museum. The presence and the spirit of Mary of the Incarnation is felt as her statue has been erected in the city. Pope Francis canonized her on April 3, 2014 along with François de Laval, the first bishop of New France as Apostles of the Americas. Sr. Bimla Minj Visit to Congo Srs. Jane and Bernadette visited the Sisters in Katanga Region of the DRCongo in mid-july. The purpose of the visit was twofold: to witness the first profession of five Sisters, the final profession of one Sister and the silver jubilee of one Sister and to speak of an important Ursuline saint, Marie of the Incarnation. The daylong session on Marie of the Incarnation included talks, group sharing and video of the life and foundation of the Ursulines of the Canadian Union by Marie. Sisters and novices from Lubumbashi, Likasi, Kalubwe and Kambove attended. The Profession Ceremony was held on July 22 in Holy Spirit Church in Kambove and was followed by a joy filled reception in Likasi. Excerpts of a Word of Thanks given by Sr. Jane are included here: It is a pleasure for me to be present with you today as you take a major step in your life by professing your vows publically. The large gathering of people shows how important this day is for us as Ursulines as well as the church and family. We all rejoice with you today. Your relatively obscure life of formation has brought you to this point of emerging as a fully vowed disciple of Jesus. These years of preparation have enabled you to nurture a deep, strong and intimate love relationship with the Lord. This is a sacred moment for you, and I imagine it is hard for you to find the words to express its deepest meaning. With Christ as your guide, you are taking your place among the professed Ursulines of Tildonk. On August 11 the sisters in Goma combined a Thanksgiving Eucharist for our 200 year anniversary with the profession and jubilee of the following Sisters: Annuarite MASIKA and Pascasie FURAHA pronounced their final vows in Goma, and Soeurs Casta SENGIYUNVA, Françoise KIKA and Isabelle MATABARO celebrated their silver jubilee. The Mass was in the Sanctuaire d Adoratioin. A reception was held in Lycée Chemchem. From Guyana Mission Dear sister. Greetings from all the sisters in Guyana mission. I am glad to write my experience which I would like to share with all my sisters in the whole Congregation. Before that, I thank you again for encouraging us through your prayerful support. Antilles Episcopal Conference Youth Assembly From July 10th-24th I was in a beautiful Caribbean island called Martinique which hosted about 800 Youth from 17 Dioceses of Caribbean countries. Guyana is also Ursuline Sisters, Generalate, Rue Musin 1, 1210 Brussels 3

4 part of this so I had an opportunity to participate in this 6th Antilles Episcopal Conference Youth Assembly 2018 with the youth of Georgetown Diocese and along with 5 youth from the Interior. It was the first time the youth of the Interior participated in this kind of Conference. The theme of the Conference was Youth Transforming the Caribbean Family. The study of Pope Francis encyclical Amoris Leatitia was done by each delegate. There were nine bishops present who gave us the time to talk over the present situation as well Sr. Nishi Susanna Kujur at the extreme left is pictured here with youth at the Assembly. as the questions about the Sacrament of Marriage which has become just like a contract for youth today. The conversation was very informative and cleared up some confusion. I felt that it was really a great occasion for the Caribbean Youth to understand their youthful stage of life and married life according to our Catholic Faith. I personally was enriched by this assembly since we are taking care of the faithful here in Guyana and most of the time we come across the problems of young people, adults and married couples. We are here to help the people to make the family a domestic Church where God dwells. Of course it was fun to mix with the French territories and English as well as with a variety of colours, cultures and new ideas; all growing in our common faith. I thank my community members Srs. Sosan, Helena and Cresencia for their continuous prayerful support. Thanks to the Jesuit mission Regional Superior and the Arrupe House priests, the priests at St. Ignatius Community who are always there to help us and the Bishop of Georgetown for inviting us from the Interior. Of course thanks to all my sisters for your ceaseless prayers for our mission in Guyana. May Mother Angela continue to walk with us all.
