1 Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico (505) OFFICE (505) FAX Rev. Stephen Schultz, Pastor Very Rev. John Daniel, Vicar General (in residence) Deacon William Ennis At Our Lady of Fatima Parish we are committed to know, love and serve God through Word and Sacrament, through our shared experience as the Mystical Body of Christ, and through the call to full, conscious and active participation in parish life. February 4, 2018 MASS SCHEDULE Saturday Mass :30 AM Saturday Anticipatory Mass for Sunday :30 PM Sunday Mass :30 AM, 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM Weekday Mass- Monday through Friday :30 AM Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday :15 AM HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION 6:30 AM, 8:15 AM and 6:30 PM UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED CONFESSION Saturday :30 to 5:00 PM or by appointment EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Mondays 8:45AM to 6:00PM ANOINTING OF THE SICK First Fridays after the 6:30 AM & 8:15 AM Masses OFFICE HOURS- - Monday through Thursday- 8:00AM to 4:30 PM NOTES FROM THE PASTOR Next weekend is the beginning of our Annual Catholic Appeal campaign for 2018 and we will have the opportunity to complete pledge cards. The theme for this year s campaign is His Mercy Endures Forever Give Drink to the Thirsty, a continuation of the Year of Mercy that was observed two years. All registered parishioners recently received a letter, pamphlet, and pledge card from Archbishop John Wester regarding the importance of the Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA). Unlike the tithing renewal that we do each November in which we commit ourselves to a weekly tithe to the support of our parish, the Annual Catholic Appeal is our opportunity to consider the needs not just of our own parish, but of Catholics across the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, many of whom are not only our spiritual brothers and sisters in Christ, but are also literally members of our extended families. Who will provide for the education of new priests for their parishes? Who will provide for the priests that visit them in the hospital? Who will provide for the training of deacons and lay ministers within our Archdiocese? Who will provide for prison ministry, Youth and Young Adult ministry, Respect Life ministry, and ministry to our Catholic university students at the Newman Centers of the University of New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands University, Eastern New Mexico University, and New Mexico Tech? Each of us are being asked to step up and make a pledge to the Annual Catholic Appeal that provides funding for all of these critical ministries and many more. The Annual Catholic Appeal Foundation represents nearly one third of all operating funds available to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. Without the ACA, the vital work of the Church would not be possible. Our assigned goal for this year is $46,000. In meeting our goal, we are meeting our obligation to support the ministries of the Archdiocese. But in surpassing our goal, we are also helping ourselves since all of the paid pledges in excess of our assigned goal are rebated directly back to our parish! In recent years, our parish has been successful in exceeding our ACA goal, but it all depends on you. Every pledge is important, regardless of the amount, and every pledge must be paid in order for us to meet our goal. Continued on Page 3 A WALK THROUGH THE MASS Page 3

3 February 4, 2018 Page 3 NOTES FROM THE PASTOR Continued from Page 1 In the 2017 ACA Campaign, our goal was $46,000, and our parishioners made 186 pledges that totaled $61,133. Of that amount, $59,260 was actually paid which meant the parish received a rebate of $13,260. The average pledge in our parish last year was $328.67, but all pledges, regardless of the amount, are helpful in achieving or surpassing our goal. Please prayerfully consider your pledge to ACA and join me in completing a pledge card next weekend if you have not already done so. Through the use of a textbook, workbook, and video presentations, this five-part program will take you on an exciting tour of the liturgy as it explains the biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and reveals their profound significance. You will gain new insights into the celebration of the Mass that will make it even more meaningful to you. Please register in advance at the parish office or call There is a $20 fee for materials (textbook and workbook). (No Class on March 1 due to Lenten Mission) Two session times to choose from: Thursdays at 10 AM or Thursdays at 6:30 PM in FGH Room 1 Lenten Parish Mission on the Mass Presented by Fr. John Trambley Tuesday through Thursday, February 27, 28 & March 1 Mission talks will be held in the Church. Time to be announced No fee and no need to register Ash Wednesday February 14 th Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 14 th. There will be four Masses with distribution of Ashes that day, at 6:30 am, 8:15 am, 12:10 pm, and 6:30 pm. The distribution of ashes will take place after the homily. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, all Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are bound by the rule of fasting. This means consuming only one full meal on those days. Two smaller meals are permitted, as necessary, to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid food between meals is not permitted, unless a small amount of food is needed for taking medications. Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all of the Fridays during Lent by all Catholics 14 years of age and older. Fasting and abstinence are intended to be penitential in nature a sacrificial action in atonement for sin. Fasting and abstinence also enables us, in some small way, to stand in solidarity with the poor throughout the world for whom hunger is a daily reality.
