1 OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, Palm Sunday the start of a tremendously spiritual week. During this week, we enter liturgically into the very life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. What I have tried to preach on these last weeks with the spiritual life facing temptations, encountering Christ, being converted and coming to know Him, and facing resistance is now ours to apply. Are we going to be fickle like the crowds on that Sunday who welcomed Christ as King, only to reject Him six days later, or being like the Pharisees who refused to worship and demanded His death, to be detached like Pilate or the Romans (simply doing our duty), or run away like most of the apostles? Or are we going to follow the example of the Blessed Mother, St. John, and Mary Magdalene who remained at the cross in worship? Are we going to look for Him in the places of the dead, or trust that He has risen? This week is ours to ponder, and to make the choice. I have to admit that I love the Triduum. I remember my kindergarten year. I did not want to go to the Good Friday Service. In her gentle way, my mother would have none of it she reminded me that Jesus loved me so much that He died for me that I could be forgiven and know Him why would I not go to thank Him. I went, and even more important, I was, even at that young age, deeply moved. I have not missed a Good Friday Service (nor Holy Thursday, Easter Vigil, or Easter Sunday) since! These days are beautiful, deeply spiritual, and liturgically intricate. While each day is its own ritual, the days of Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday add to the previous one. Further, Easter is without meaning without Good Friday, and Good Friday is cruel without the Resurrection. Please, make every effort to attend as many as you can! In Christ, Fr. Todd J. Petersen ================================================================= WEEKLY SCHEDULE April 13-20, 2014 Palm Sunday of Lent, April 13 8 AM Mass at Nicollet 10 AM Mass (+Ralph & +Marion Ann Boys), SP 10 AM FF Preschool Gr. 1, Soc Hall, Fam Rm 11 AM Coffee & Rolls, Social Hall 5:30 PM Mass (Parish Family), St. Peter 7 8:30 PM LifeTeen, Social Hall Monday 8 AM Mass (+Henry & +Michael Kirchner), Chapel 9 AM Bible Study, Family Room 3:30 PM Calvary Cemetery, Room 127 Tuesday 8 AM Mass (+Virginia Vogel), Chapel 6 PM Choir, Band Room 6:30 PM JI Events Committee, Teacher Work Rm 7 PM Stewardship Com., Family Room Wednesday 8 AM Mass (+Vince Dumdei), Chapel No School Choir No Faith Formation Holy Thursday Offices Closed 7 PM Mass (+Chris Kienlen), St. Peter No Adoration or Confessions Good Friday Offices Closed Noon Service, Nicollet 3 PM Service, St. Peter 7 PM Stations, St. Peter Holy Saturday 8:30 PM Mass (Parish Family), St. Peter Easter Sunday, April 20 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10 AM Mass (Special Family Intention), St. Peter No Coffee & Rolls No Faith Formation

Pestering the Pastor and Why do we do what we do as Catholics? are two of the most popular requested programs. Check the survey to see what you will choose! We are eager to hear what you would like to know about your Catholic faith. If you do not have a survey, you may pick one up at the table in the Narthex or contact Karen in the parish office. Thank you. Due to circumstances, the Stewardship numbers will be printed in next week s bulletin. From the Calvary Cemetery Rules and Regulations: LANDSCAPING, PLANTING, AND FLORAL REGULATIONS 1. No trees, shrubbery, plants or flowers shall be planted in or transplanted into the Cemetery for decorative, memorial or any other purposes whatsoever, except by the cemetery management. Any of the above so planted will be removed by the cemetery caretaker. 2. Small bronze vases are permitted, but these must be set in cement at the same time as the marker. The cement collar will also extend three (3) inches around the base of the vase and will be part of

5 the marker foundation. One vase will be allowed for individual markers and two for double markers. Vases may be used around monuments also. 3. Vases, urns, flower pots, plants, boxes, glass jars, cans, etc. will not be permitted on lots or graves, except that these or other appropriate decorations may be placed on lots or graves, (but not set into the ground), for Memorial Day or for such special occasions as may be designated by the cemetery management. However, all such containers and all other decorations must be removed within ten (10) days following Memorial Day or other designated occasions, after which the cemetery caretaker will dispose of all those remaining except all so-called permanent type urns or plant holders which must be incorporated within the wash of the monument or marker. 4. A three (3) day limit after each burial when all bouquets, decorations, etc. shall be removed from the grave. 5. Local cemetery management will not be liable for floral pieces, baskets, misplaced or broken flower vases or flag standards or other forms of memorials or decorations. 6. The cemetery management/caretaker will remove all floral designs, flowers (natural or artificial), or decorations of any kind from the cemetery grounds as soon as, in their judgment, these plantings and arrangements have become unsightly, dangerous, detrimental, or do not conform to the regulations. 7. No objects under 3/8 in diameter are to be placed in the ground. SAVE THE DATES: MONDAY, APRIL 28 Bishop John LeVoir will celebrate the White Mass for all health care workers of the diocese on Monday, April 28 at 7 pm at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. A reception will follow the Mass. Health care in the United States if facing many challenges that affect us all. Please come and join in prayer with and for our health care workers. FRIDAY, JUNE 20 Province of St. Paul and Minneapolis National Council of Catholic Women presents: Immaculée Ilibagiza New York Times Best Selling Author, Rwandan Genocide Survivor 7:00 pm St. Mary s Church 417 S. Minnesota St., New Ulm She is a living example of faith put into action as her life was transformed dramatically during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Immaculée credits her salvage mostly to prayer and to a set of rosary beads given to her by her father. Through prayer, she eventually found it possible, and in fact, imperative, to forgive her tormentors and her family s murderers. The Good Friday Collection Explained Pictured (left) is the Jerusalem Cross. If you have the opportunity to visit the Holy Land you will see this cross displayed everywhere. The meaning behind the Jerusalem Cross can be explained in many ways. The most famous are its representation of the Five Wounds of Jesus Christ. Another is the large cross representing the Person of Jesus, with the smaller four crosses representing the Four Gospels spread to the Four Corners of the Earth started in the Upper Room, in Jerusalem, more than 2000 years ago on Pentecost. We are blessed with rich and marvelous tradition! The Good Friday collection is taken up once a year and provides the necessary basic cash flow, operating income if you will, to sustain the Catholic institutions in the Holy Land. It is our collective privilege and duty to preserve our tangible heritage in our Christian Holy Land. Please give generously! Peace Salam, Rami Qumsieh, KHS, a concerned Catholic Palestinian from Bethlehem.
