The Light is On: Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 21, 2018 when the confessional lights will be on in parishes across the Diocese of Toledo for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Between the hours of 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on March 21st, priests in local parishes will be available to hear confessions. Begun in the Archdiocese of Washington, DC as a means to encourage the Catholic faithful to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, The Light is On is a collective diocesan-wide effort when confessions are scheduled at the same time at local parishes on a selected day. 5 From Monsignor s Desk Dear Friends, During a meeting with Bishop Thomas this last Tuesday, I accepted a new assignment which will begin on July 2, I made a promise many years ago that I would always say yes to God and the Church when asked to serve. Now that I have completed a full term as your Pastor, it has been decided that Corpus Christi University Parish would receive one full-time Pastor instead of two part-team priests. This decision was made after receiving input from the parishioners a year ago when my service was evaluated. I will become the Pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Sylvania. Father Jeremy Miller, our Associate Pastor, will become the Pastor of Corpus Christi University Parish. Both Father Jeremy and I are committed to giving our present assignments our full attention and energy until our positions change on July 1, Let us all pray for each other and our parish during this transition. Dear Friends, It is with a grateful heart that we say good-bye to Kim Williams as our parish secretary. She will continue her ministry at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, where her family belongs, and her children attend elementary school. She has been a blessing to our parish staff and entire community. We wish her many blessings as she moves from our parish. With open arms we welcome Becky Fournier to our parish staff who will serve as our new parish secretary. She brings great skills and a welcoming spirit to our community. I hope you will stop by the office and welcome her to our parish. 6 Catholic Student Association Event Calendar Feel At home The Catholic presence at the University of Toledo University of Toledo UNDERGRADUATE Catholic Student Association (CSA) and GRADUATE STUDENT Newman Club: Did you know that if you are a Catholic at the University of Toledo, you are automatically a member of CSA or the Newman Club? The Catholic Student Association is one of the largest co-ed organizations on the University of Toledo s campus. Associated with Corpus Christi University Parish, it serves as the Catholic student organization on campus, fostering spiritual, social and academic growth. The Social Committee will be hosting a game night in the Newman Rooms on Tuesday, March 20th at 6 p.m. We will be playing games ranging from board games to card games and much, much more. Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, Please join us! We're looking for families, churches, schools, service organizations and groups to go the extra mile for people in need by running, walking, and supporting Catholic Charities transforming service ministries! This is the 6th year Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo has been designated a Glass City Marathon Charitable Partner. Kids can run/walk a 1/4, 1/2 or 1-mile course, and those 6+ can compete with adults in the 5K race on Saturday, April 21. The marathon, marathon relay and half marathon are on Sunday, April 22. After both day's races, there will be food and fellowship. 7 Newman Club for Graduate Students The Newman Club is designed specifically for graduate students at the University of Toledo who are seeking ways to practice their faith in the midst of their busy schedules. Graduate Student Dinner and Discussion Join other University of Toledo Graduate students for a free dinner and a discussion led by Father Jeremy Miller at Corpus Christi University Parish. Go through the food line after the 6 p.m. Mass and then gather in the Kirtland Classroom. Contact Father Jeremy for more information: jmiller@ccup.org. Upcoming Dinner and Discussion date: Sunday, March 18 Lenten Mid Day Musters: Join in a discussion over lunch, following noon Mass, of the Scripture readings for the following Sunday on Wed. March 7, 15, 21. Open to all parishioners. Pre-register for lunch to the parish office by the Monday before the discussion, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Tuesdays, 7-8 p.m. and Fridays, 12:30-4 p.m.(except March 6th or 9th due to Spring Break and Good Friday) in the Daily Chapel. Chaplet of Divine Mercy: The Chaplet of Mercy is recited using ordinary Rosary beads of five decades. The Chaplet is preceded by two opening prayers from the Diary of Saint Faustina and followed by a closing prayer. 3 p.m. in the Daily Chapel during the Fridays of Lent (except March 9th and Good Friday). Stations of the Cross: Meditate on the Stations of the Cross during Lent. Booklets are available at the First Station located in the floor of the Church or at the tables in the Gathering Space. Monday - Wednesday, 9-5 p.m. and Fridays, 9-6 p.m. Lenten Care Bags: Help support local food pantries and shelters by collecting nonperishable food items and toiletries in a bag and bring it to the DeBenedetti Room no later than Palm Sunday, March 25th. The Bethany House 9th Annual Celebrity Wait Night will take place on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 6-8pm at Zia's and Real Seafood Co. You can participate in three ways: prayer and fasting, community outreach and peaceful vigil.
