Liturgy of the Word at Mass Materials Lenten Plan JEOPARDY Catechist Prayer before the lesson: Jesus, strengthen my resolve to walk with you during the Lenten season; to practice prayer, fasting, and almsgiving; and to abstain from my own wants in order to better meet the needs of others. Amen. Before the lesson: Hand out the Lenten Plan worksheet for students to start working on before class starts. 1

2 [5 min] Invite Time for Change (p. 25) Ask the students if there is anything they would like to pray for. Pray the Memorare. Read the prayer and Scripture passage on page 25. [10 min] Discover The Forty Days (p. 26) Lent started on Ash Wednesday last week. It is a 40-day period to prepare for Easter by praying, fasting, and almsgiving. Read and discuss Lent on pages 26. [5 min] Lenten Plan Hand out the Lenten Plan worksheet if you didn t hand it out before class. Give the students time to think about what they want to do for Lent, then discuss. o Note: Self-Denial means giving up certain habits or food in order to strengthen our willpower and improve our lives. We give these things up as a sacrifice, which we can offer up as a penance for someone else.
