19 TODAY S MUSICAL OFFERING Keep in touch with SJD Music at our blog: sjdmusic.wordpress.com. Our worship begins ends (Prelude Postlude) with two poignant settings Advent hymn Savior Nations, Come (Hymn 54) as arranged by Johann Sebastian Bach. The melody highly ornamented in soprano at Prelude boldly stated in pedal with long notes at Postlude. We also sing th hymn during Mintration. The Benedictus (also known as Song Zachariah) one three canticles in opening chapters Gospel Luke, or two being Magnificat (Song Mary) Nunc dimitt (Song Simeon). The canticle received its name from its first words in Latin, Benedictus Dominus Deus Israel, (Blessed be Lord God Israel). In Anglican tradition, it one canticles appointed for Morning Prayer, it has two parts: first a song thanksgiving for realization Messianic hopes Jewh nation, but to such realization given a charactertically Chrtian tone. The second part canticle an address by Zechariah to h own son John Baptt, who was to take so important a part in scheme Redemption; for he was to be a prophet, to preach remsion sins preparing way before coming or Dawn from on high. The Benedictus appointed canticle for today to be sung in lieu a Psalm. We sing it at 11am to Anglican Chant. The old German carol Lo, How a Rose both an Advent Chrtmas hymn that expresses acknowledges a particular tension we ought to be aware during Chrtmas season. Just as, in prophecies from Isaiah, a rose, or stem, shoots up from stump, so too do we celebrate Chrt s birth in knowledge that He brings life out death. Our celebrations Chrtmas must always point us to Easter. The Chorale sings an elegant setting th carol by 20th Century German composer Hugo Dtler at 9am Introit during Mintration at 11am. At Offertory, we hear prophetic words Isaiah, And glory Lord shall be revealed, in a familiar chorus from Hel s Messiah.. 19.
