The great mystery of Christ is contemplated throughout a whole year, considering it from the very beginning up to his coming at the end of the times. There are two main feasts in the Liturgical Year: Easter, the celebration of our Redemption through the death and resurrection of Christ, which is culminated in Pentecost; and Christmas, the celebration of the Incarnation of the Word of God. Before both solemnities there are special times to get ready to celebrate them. Therefore Lent is the liturgical time of preparation for Easter, and Advent is the preparation for Christmas. What is Advent for? Our life is a short life. When we get old, we look backwards at all our life and it turns to have been like a dream. Death is similar to a sudden wake up, a wake up to eternal life. Life is like a long night. In the beginning, earthly life wasn t meant to be a night, rather it was supposed to be a bright day. But this world has been overwhelmed with the darkness of sin. That s why we were given a candle the day of our Baptism, so that the light of faith may enable us to walk ahead through dark shadows, till the dawn comes like a thief. We must not lose this light and fall asleep, lest the enemy should come up against us and seize us. Therefore the recommendation of the Lord at the beginning of Advent season: Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come (Mk 13:33). Prayer is the major means to keep in mind who our master is, who we are, and what our life is supposed to be all about. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of our daily life, let us lift up our hearts to our master, so that we do not forget Him. He is always looking lovingly upon us, therefore let us live in his divine Presence! Let us switch off every source of noise and listen to Him, at least a handful of minutes a day. Therefore we ll be able to connect with the true sense of life and death, to real happiness, to authentic love. The Sacrament of Reconciliation keeps our guard on, enables our conscience to be ready to sift all things through God s commandments and dispositions. This Christmas the Lord wants to come over to you and me sacramentally, so that when the day of our death comes we will be prepared to pass the last examination of conscience. Let us go to the confessional to clean our souls and refresh our consciences, so that we became fully aware of our real spiritual situation, lest the devil disguised breaks into our heart and take us away with him. Mark this: the more time since your last confession, the more you need it! This Advent, let us get purified so that we can celebrate the Christmas encounter with joy and peace. O Lord of hosts, restore us; Let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved (Ps 80:4)

PIUS X SCHOOL NEWS We have begun trimester two of our year! We had a great first trimester, and we are ready to have an even better second trimester! We have 246 students enrolled in our school who are receiving daily faith formation and an excellent academic foundation. We are proud of our students and teachers, and the hard work they do! If you want to learn more about our school, come and visit us at our Open House on Jan. 27 th, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. You can tour the school, meet the teachers, get to know students and parents, find out about financial aid, and apply for the next school year. Teacher Highlight: Erin Thielke has been teaching fifth grade at St. Pius X Catholic School for two years. She has a bachelor s degree in elementary education and art from Wayne State College in Nebraska. She has taught previously at St. Therese. Erin is the mother of eight children with her husband Jim! Erin loves to take her class on field trips, so they are very lucky! They have gone to museums, the Stock Show, hiking, and to many other places. We are very grateful to have Erin here at our school! These are older folks who live in local Care facilities, but have no family or friends nearby. To be part of this program, please call the Parish Office and you will be assigned the name and size of a Senior. You will have the option of taking the gift to the Senior yourself or arrange for the parish staff to deliver it. December 9th at 11:00 am - 1:00 pm & December 16th at 11:00 am - until finish Keeping with our Tradition St. Pius X Parish Feed the Hungry Please bring non-perishable Food items before December 14th Please consider these items: Masa flour, lard-(found on shelf), Canned Vegetables and Fruits, Bags of Beans and Rice, Boxed Juices, Spaghetti sauce, Spaghetti O s, Raviolis, Ketchup, Mustard, Peanut butter, Jelly/ Jam, Fruit snacks, Pop Tarts, Beef Stew, Baby Formula, Cereal and Cereal bars, Oatmeal, Coffee, Tea, Infant Cereal, Baby food, Any kind of Pasta, Macaroni and Cheese, Canned Tuna, Canned meats and beans, Corn meal, Cookies and Crackers. Each year, a number of our parishioner families have adopted struggling families in the north Aurora area and helped them out at Christmas time. If you would like to be a part of this project, we can find you a family in the community that needs some help with food and gifts for X -mas. We only ask that your assistance be equivalent to a gift or two for each family member and that you provide at least one week s worth of food. You have the option of arranging your gift with the family directly or having us be intermediaries your choice.
