Music of the Mass Kyrie Le Roy John Taverner (c ) Mass for Four Voices Thomas Tallis (c ) Jhesu, since thou me made and bought George Oldroyd ( ) Entrance Hymn - Sung by I heard the voice Hymnal 376 THE ORDER OF MASS In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Lord Jesus Christ said: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Lord have mercy upon us, and write all these Thy laws in our hearts, we beseech Thee. Kyrie Eleison - Sung by the Choir Κyrie Eleison Lord, have mercy Christe Eleison Christ, have mercy Kyrie Eleison Lord, have mercy

Collect O God, who knowest us to be set in the midst of so many and great dangers, that by reason of the frailty of our nature we cannot always stand upright: Grant to us such strength and protection, as may support usz in all dangers Amen. Old Testament Lesson And Samuel called the people together unto the Lord to Mizpeh; And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you: And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands. And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.= When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found. Therefore they enquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff. And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward. And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the Lord hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king. 1 Samuel 10 v

Gradual Psalm THE Lord is King the earth may be glad thereof : yea the multitude of the isles may be glad thereof. 2 Clouds and darkness are round about him : righteousness and judgement are the habitation of his seat. 3 There shall go a fire before him : and burn up his enemies on every side. 4 His lightnings gave shine unto the world : the earth saw it and was afraid. 5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord : at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. 6 The heavens have declared his righteousness : and all the people have seen his glory. 7 Confounded be all they that worship carved images and that delight in vain gods : worship him all ye gods. 8 Sion heard of it and rejoiced : and the daughters of Judah were glad because of thy judgements O Lord. 9 For thou Lord art higher than all that are in the earth : thou art exalted far above all gods. 10 O ye that love the Lord see that ye hate the thing which is evil : the Lord preserveth the souls of his saints * he shall deliver them from the hand of the ungodly. 11 There is sprung up a light for the righteous : and joyful gladness for such as are true-hearted. 12 Rejoice in the Lord ye righteous : and give thanks for a remembrance of his holiness.

New Testament Lesson Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Romans 13 v. 1-7 Gradual The heathen shall fear thy name, O Lord: and all the kings of the earth thy majesty. When the Lord shall build up Sion and when his glory shall appear. Gospel Acclamation The Lord is King, the earth may be glad thereof: yea, the multitude of the isles may be glad_thereof.

The Gospel The Lord be with you: And with thy spirit. Hear the Holy Gospel according to Matthew: Glory be to thee, O Lord. And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him! And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding. So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils. And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts. Matthew 8 v. 23-end This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to thee, O Christ. Sermon Help In The Storm The Principal

Intercessions The Sub-deacon leads the congregation in the intercessions for the Church and the world. The response to each bidding is Hear our prayer. Confession The Celebrant invites the people to confess their sins, kneeling: Ye who do truly and earnestly repent you of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways; Draw near with faith, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God, devoutly kneeling upon your knees. Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker of all things, judge of all men: we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against thy divine majesty, provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Celebrant pronounces the Absolution Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all those who with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto him; Have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And with thy spirit.

Offertory Sentence - Sung by the Choir The right hand of the Lord hath the pre-eminence; the right hand of the Lord bringeth mighty things to pass: I shall not die but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Offertory Hymn - Sung by Dear Lord and Father of mankind Hymnal 353 Prayer over the Gifts Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable unto God, the Father almighty: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at thy hands, for the praise and glory of his Name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. The Celebrant prays a Collect. reply: Amen The Eucharistic Prayer The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up unto the Lord. Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. It is meet and right so to do. The Proper Preface follows, which leads into the Sanctus and Benedictus: Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli et terra Gloria tua. Hosanna in Excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini: Hosanna in Excelsis. At the conclusion of the Eucharistic Prayer all sing: Amen. Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts, Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee O Lord most high. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Invitation to Communion Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him that taketh away the sins of the world: blessed are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb. 15 Communion Hymn - Sung by Just as I am Hymnal 294 Post-Communion Prayers Please stand The Celebrant prays the Post-Communion Prayer: Almighty and everliving God, we most heartily thank thee, for that thou dost vouchsafe to feed us who have duly received these holy mysteries with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby of thy favour and goodness towards us; and that we are very members incorporate in the mystical body of thy Son, which is the blessed company of all faithful people; and are also heirs through hope of thy everlasting kingdom, by the merits of his most precious death and passion. And we humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace, that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen. Almighty God, we thank thee for feeding us with the body and blood of thy Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer thee our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of thy Spirit to live and work to thy praise and glory. Amen.
