4 Returning Catholics For All Catholics Who Have Been Away From the Church The Returning Catholics Program is sponsored by the St. Francis of Assisi Church. It is for all Catholics who have been away from the Church for any length of time, regardless of the circumstances. This Program can also be a refresher for those who would like to get better acquainted with their Catholic Faith. We will help you understand the basic concepts of the Catholic Faith and, if you wish, help facilitate your return to any parish. You will not be pressured or in any way obligated. This Program is to use as you wish. If you or someone you know might like to attend, our contact information is given below: Thursdays, February 15th through March 22nd, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Door Is Open! An RSVP is appreciated but not required. Call Judy at (208) or Bob at (208) or send an to: bobmurphy9@gmail.com

5 ST. FRANCIS PARISH LIFE Visiting Priest New Endow Study We welcome Father James Quinlan of Cross Catholic Outreach who is speaking this weekend at all the Masses on behalf of the poor in developing countries. Cross Catholic Outreach was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South America. The website for the Cross Catholic Outreach organization is Palms for Ashes Please bring your old palms from now until February 4th, and place them in the designated containers for burning in preparation for Ash Wednesday, which falls on February 14th this year. The containers will be located in the narthex of both the Historic Church and 27th Street Church. Thank you, Deacon Stephen McGlone Planning Ahead As part of my Ministry as the Volunteer Funeral Coordinator for St. Francis of Assisi Parish, on Tuesday, February 6th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the St. Clare Chapel, I will be giving a presentation on what is required by the Roman Catholic Church, the Diocese of Baker, and our St. Francis of Assisi Parish to have a Catholic Funeral Mass, or a Memorial Mass, here at St. Francis Parish, and also what your role and that of your family can be. There will be handouts provided, as well as an opportunity to ask questions. If the date and time listed above are not convenient for you, I will be holding another meeting later this year. Please RSVP to me, Jan Michelsen, at (541) Latin Mass The Latin Mass that was scheduled for Sunday, January 28th, has been cancelled. The next Latin Mass, celebrated by Fr. Szymakowski, will be at the St. Francis Historic Church on Sunday, February 11th, at 1 p.m. Confessions will be heard by appointment. Call (541) St. Francis Endow (Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women) Ministry announces a new study just in time for Lent On the Christian Meaning of Suffering. Come along on a journey through John Paul II s 1984 letter that tackles the question of how to make sense of suffering. His message is tinged with joy and hope and leaves one with a peaceful sense of being cared for even in the most trying circumstances. All women are welcome to join us for 8 12 weeks, beginning on Thursday, February 15th, from 1 to 3 p.m., in Seminar Room #2. To register go to kristine-mclean-p4082.aspx. For more information, please call or Kristine McLean at (541) or dkmclean@bendcable.com. Stewardship of Time and Talent When we think of Stewardship, we typically think in terms of giving money, but we are also called to be good stewards of our time and talent. An easy way to give of your time and talent is to serve as a liturgical minister at Mass. The parish needs people in a variety of ministerial roles, especially at the 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday Masses. Sacristans: Set up and clean the vessels and other items needed for Mass and assist in keeping the sacristy organized. Lectors: Proclaim one of the readings at Mass. Extraordinary Ministers: Assist in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at Communion. Acolytes: Assist the priest and deacon at Mass and other liturgical functions. Open to Catholic men who have been confirmed and age 18+. Altar Servers: Assist at Mass and open to all youth who have received First Communion. Talk to any liturgical minister, and you will find out that this service adds immensely to your appreciation of the Mass, deepens your relationship with Jesus, and is a good way to meet people. VOLUNTEER NOW! Please contact Deacon Steve at liturgy@stfrancisbend.org or call the Parish Office at (541) , ext
