1 OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) From the Pastor : Over the next few weeks you will hear much about the theology of Holy Eucharist as we work our way through the sixth chapter of John s Gospel. Here is a more poetic reflection by R. Voight that may help make the connection to living Eucharist every day. Eucharist He was old, tired, and sweaty, pushing his homemade cart down the alley, stopping now and then to poke around in somebody s garbage. I wanted to tell him about Eucharist, but the look in his eyes, the despair on his face, the hopelessness of somebody else s life in his cart, told me to forget it. So I smiled, said, Hi! and gave him Eucharist. She lived alone, her husband dead, her family gone, and she talked at you, not to you: words, endless words, spewed out. So I listened and gave her Eucharist. Downtown is nice, lights change from red to green and back again. Flashing blues, pinks, and oranges, I gulped them in, said Thank you, Father and made them Eucharist. I laughed at myself, and told myself, You with all your sin, all your selfishness. I forgive you. I accept you. I love you. It s nice--and so very necessary too to give yourself Eucharist. Tired, weary, disgusted, lonely, go to your friends, open their door, say, Look at me and receive their Eucharist. My father, when will learn you cannot talk Eucharist, cannot philosophize about it you do it! You don t dogmatize Eucharist: sometimes you laugh it, sometimes you cry it, often you sing it. Sometimes it s a wild peace, then crying hurt, often humiliating, never deserved. You see Eucharist in another s eyes, give it in another s hand held tight, squeeze it in an embrace. You pause Eucharist in the middle of a busy day, speak Eucharist with a million things to do and a person who wants to talk. For Eucharist is as simple as being on time, and as profound as sympathy. I give you my supper. I give you my sustenance. I give you my life, I give you me, I give you.eucharist. 3 Good News TV Channel 7 The Future Depends on Love hosted by Drs. Angela & David Franks Join Drs. Angela and David Franks as they discuss the importance of marriage in society from a Catholic perspective. They host a different guest on each episode, allowing them to look at marriage from a wide variety of angles. Some of the topics include the Theology of the Body, natural family planning, annulments, good preparation programs for marriage, and teaching one s children about marriage. Episode 14: Erika Bachiochi Erika Bachiochi has a master s degree in theology and a law degree. She speaks about the social ramifications of the sexual revolution on the poor. 8 As you know, the Harvest Festival is approaching fast. Shops on St. Pete s Street are ready to stock their stores, so if you have a new or fairly new item you would like to donate, it can be brought to the church at any time during office hours. The stores include: ======================================================== TEEN SCENE Looking for items that a teen would like such as games, CDs, jewelry, electronics, purses, sports memorabilia, IPods, etc. WHIMSICAL GARDEN DÉCOR Looking for things such as stepping stones, spinners, ceramic animals, bird baths, bird feeders, clean gardening tools, perennials, plant starters, gardening books, bulbs, etc. SUGAR SHACK Items can be brought Friday, 9/14 until 6 pm or Saturday morning, 9/15. HIDDEN TREASURES Home decorations Collectibles, jewelry, Crystal, art, Plates, etc. GOD S LITTLE ACRE (Farmers Market) is looking for garden items, squash, watermelon, tomatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers etc. GENERAL STORE Crafts, household items, toys, games, and all miscellaneous items. YE OLE BAKERY We would ask all parishioners to donate cakes, cookies, bars, breads, canned goods, Nationality goodies. These can be brought to the church Friday evening until 6 pm or early Saturday morning, September 14 or September 15. We are also looking for BINGO prizes and Children s Games prizes!! We will be having a volunteer sign up sheet in the Narthex the weekend of August So check your calendar to see if you can help make this year s Festival the best ever!! A new store this year will be Christmas in September!
