3 Welcome to St. Pius X Parish Letter from Pastor Dear Parishioners: Greetings in the Lord and welcome to our parish family! I am excited to share with you our ministry booklet for St. Pius X Parish. I pray that you will respond to the Lord s invitation to get involved as a laborer in the Lord s vineyard. You will find many ministries in this parish dedicated to serving God and others. We are a stewardship parish; that means that we are all called and have a responsibility to share our time, talent and treasure with one another and with the local and universal Church and community. Everyone can do something in regard to giving back, since all of our gifts and blessings, ultimately come from God. I pray you will get involved in the life of the parish so that we can be a vibrant faith community living in Christ and sharing the riches and the treasures of our Catholic faith. We want to grow in the Lord and it will only happen if we allow the Holy Spirit to lead, guide, strengthen and move us. I look forward to seeing you involved and working along-side you. We have a wonderful parish and I look forward to building it in Christ as we share our faith with each other and the rest of the world. God bless. In Christ, Msgr. Mark Merdian Pastor revised

6 Liturgy Altar Servers: Altar servers assist the priest and the deacon at mass. Servers carry the cross and candles during the procession, hold the Sacramentary for the prayers, assist with setting and removing sacred vessels on and from the altar, and serve as role models for the congregation to follow during mass. At St. Pius X, boys and girls from our parish (both from Jordan Catholic School and from CCD) are trained to serve after completion of 4th grade. We encourage high school students to continue to serve until high school graduation. Contact Fr. Freehill, Altar Servers for Funeral Masses: Adult altar servers are needed for funeral masses. If anyone is interested in this ministry, please contact Bob Carton, Art and Environment Committee: This ministry includes a variety of responsibilities some of which are decorating the altar for funerals, weddings, and holidays, cleaning altar cloths, watering flowers and changing altar candles. If anyone is interested in this ministry, please contact Chris Holmes, Eucharistic Ministers of Holy Communion: This ministry serves the parish by supplying ministers for Sunday and Holy Day masses. Ministers are scheduled for a month each quarter. If you are interested in serving the parish in this ministry, please contact Barb Roedel, , broedel@stpiusri.org. Greeters: Parishioners serve in welcoming ministries at Masses. If you wish to be a greeter, please contact Barb Roedel, , broedel@stpiusri.org. Lectors: Lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord at Mass, an honor and a privilege. Anyone interested in participating in this ministry, contact Barb Roedel, , broedel@stpiusri.org. Liturgical Life Committee: The Liturgical Life Committee oversees all aspects of liturgical structures. For more information, contact Pete Doyle, , pete.doyle@modern-woodman.org. Ushers: If you are interested in serving as an usher, please contact Jack Tumbleson, , jack@qconline.com. revised

7 Music Ministry: In Psalm 150 we read: Praise the Lord! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Singing in worship isn't all about you, or about any one person. It's all about what we do together: Simply joining in the singing of the liturgy and hymns may be your best gift of praise to God. On the other hand, what if you are able to read musical notes, have a good singing voice, or can play a musical instrument? Perhaps God is calling you to return a special musical offering. Whatever your level of skill, there is a place for you in the music ministry at St. Pius X Church: the parish choir, funeral choir, ministry of cantoring, or special instrumental music, are all possibilities. Please contact our Pastoral Musician, Steve (309) , or sasteely@prodigy.net to discuss ways of thanking God through the ministry of music. Spirituality and Faith Formation Adult Faith Formation: Throughout the year, many educational and spiritual opportunities will be offered through St. Pius X Catholic Church and also within the diocese to deepen our faith journey. Please consider joining us for one of the varied opportunities throughout the year. For more information, contact Barbara Roedel, Director of Adult Faith Formation, or broedel@stpiusri.org. Baptismal Preparation: Baptismal preparation classes for parents are held on the 3rd Wednesday of January, March, May, July, September and November at 7:30 pm in Farrell Hall. Parish membership is required. Please call Katherine at the rectory, revised

8 CCD Religious Education: St. Pius X Religious Education programs seek to provide children and young people with the knowledge, experiences, and skills necessary to become faithful disciples of Jesus. Classes start the week after Labor Day and are held on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Catechists present lessons and share their faith with the students. Catechists are needed to teach in weekly religious education classes or monthly in family formation groups. Contact Julie Nonnenmann at , jnonnenmann@stpiusri.org. Family Faith Formation: This program revolves around weekly family gatherings and home lessons. This shared learning experience spills over into the family s everyday life. The group meets once a month. Lessons are provided for the rest of the month for the parents to teach at home. Contact Julie Nonnenmann at Holy Hour of Divine Mercy: Every Sunday, 3:00-4:00 pm you are invited to join us to pray for the end of abortions. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the recitation of the Rosary and the Litany of Divine Mercy, and a short homily are included. Prayers for the unborn follow. We invite all of God s people to join us. For more information, contact Deacon Paul Martin, , mrpaul633@yahoo.com. Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration: St. Pius X chapel is located on the 24th Street side of the church. We need 168 people a week to be a perpetual adoration chapel. Parishioners are welcome to visit the chapel at any time. Both regular adorers and visitors sign the register sheet with their name and time spent with Jesus. You will find this sheet on a small table to the left as your enter. Regular adorers and substitutes are always needed. Contact Margaret Wadsworth, RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults): RCIA is a process through which non-baptized men and women enter the Catholic Church. It is also intended for those baptized in a different faith tradition who wish to become Catholic or persons who were baptized Catholic but never received first communion or confirmation. RCIA is not just a program; it is a journey we make together with the Catholic community in search of God. For more information, contact Barbara Roedel, Director of Adult Faith Formation, or broedel@stpiusri.org. If would like to volunteer for this ministry, please contact Bob Carton, revised
