R egina Regina Coeli House, Farley Road, Platte City, MO Tel: (816) FAX (816) C oeli Report January 2010 Monthly, Number 217 Expansion for Holy Name of Jesus Academy As first reported in the December 2007 issue, the Dominican Teaching Sisters founded a muchneeded new girls school at MASSENA,NY, which as of this academic year is already filled to capacity. The academy started its first year in 2007 with eight sisters and 50 students (30 of whom were boarders) spread between kindergarten and 7th grade. Now in its third year, the academy has added all high school grades and increased to 12 sisters and 110 girls (80 boarders). In the meantime, since the complex s purchase, necessary renovations have continued. So earlier this summer, along with the help of volunteers (including students), the sisters emptied the building s 18 rooms used for classrooms, dormitories and cells, for a thorough cleaning and various touch-ups, thereby slowly resuscitating the formerly closed-down elementary school. Also because this year s influx of sisters and boarders has caused the building s occupancy to be stretched to its limit (thereby creating a waiting list for boarding applications of admission), another summer task was the preparing of makeshift cells for the sisters and a temporary classroom to accommodate the happy increase. Work also began this summer on a new two-storied wing, which when completed, will have living quarters for 20 sisters, four lay teachers and 112 boarding girls. The architect designed a building that was somewhat big but very simple, which when completed, will allow the sisters to return the existing dormitories to their original classroom function. Presently the concrete foundation has been poured, the walls and roof have been erected, as well as the interior s wooden framing, completing the building s basic structure. However, the Dominican Teaching Sisters require an additional $500,000 to complete the new wing and make it inhabitable, so donations for this important part of rebuilding Christendom (through the traditional Catholic formation of future women) are much appreciated. 1 (Top) The first part of the summer projects, the exodus of furniture and miscellany from the academy s rooms begins! (Bottom left) The sisters continued to improve their complex with some new paint in a hallway. (Bottom right) Shown here are 2 sisters varnish wood trim for the building in the school gym, which in addition as workshop, also temporarily serves for storage. Continued on p.2
dominican sisters..., continued from p.1 The initial construction of the new addition as seen from the front yard. Here the workers erect a section of wall framing on the concrete foundation which has already been plumbed for the drains. Another view of more completed framing which better shows the spacious size of the new addition. A shot of the basic framing inside the addition. The sisters have already begun to occupy the building as shown by the image and flowers. A view of the entire complex and spacious grounds of Holy Name of Jesus Academy. From right to left, the gym (the square building), the classrooms and present dormitories (the low building) and the new living quarters wing (the pitched roof building). 3 All Saints Day Parties We present here some images of parties that were held in SSPX chapels in honor of the Feast of All Saints on November 1st. Annunciation Chapel, Ft. Collins, CO St. John Vianney Church, Browerville, MN Pastor, Fr. Dennis McDonald, poses with his parish saints during the party which included a turkey dinner hosted by the Altar and Rosary Society. Can you identify the saints in this group picture? Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sanger Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, North Richland Hills (Ft. Worth), TX The Sanger and Ft. Worth chapels held a combined party for their multitude of saints. Uninvited though was the Devil himself, who tried to tempt the pastor, Fr. Novak, with an apple. Father retaliated the unwelcomed intrusion though with a scapular and bucket of holy water which caused the Devil to flee in terror! St. Michael s Church, Mandan (Bismarck), ND The chapel also took the opportunity to celebrate the birthday of their pastor, Fr. Richard Boyle. This line up of saints wearing creative costumes seem pleased to have their picture taken. 3
Processions to Honor Heaven In addition to the annual Corpus Christi Procession, a variety of processions were held this year in honor of Christ the King (on the last Sunday of October), Our Lady of the Rosary (during the month of October, including the International Rosary March as featured in the last issue), and even St. Joseph (March 19th). Here we present a few of these that have occurred in the United States District. Feast of Christ the King Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sanger, TX Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel, Los Gatos, CA The new pastor, Fr. Kenneth Novak, raises the Blessed Sacrament in benediction at the altar of repose prepared under a public shelter belonging to the city of Sanger. Happily, the event of publicly honoring Our Lord s Kingship was reported by the local newspaper complete with pictures. The pastor, Fr. Jacques Emily, carried the Blessed Sacrament through the expansive grounds of the retreat center. Jesus and Mary Church, El Paso, TX The 1-mile, 1-hour Eucharistic procession is seen here making its way towards downtown El Paso. The elegant altar of repose prepared in the enclosed Quad at Jesus and Mary Church and Academy in El Paso, TX. Accepting Mass Stipends The USA District Office is collecting Mass stipends for SSPX (or its affilate) priests in need. The suggested donation is $15.00 per Mass. NB: we cannot receive stipends for Gregorian Masses (e.g., 30 consecutive Requiem Masses). Checks should be made out to the SSPX and sent to: Rev. Fr. Joseph Dreher, District Secretary Regina Coeli House N. Farley Road, Platte City, MO Please include a separate note outlining the Mass intention. 4 See our website for details:
St. Vincent de Paul Church, Kansas City, MO St. Anthony of Padua Church, Mt. Holly (Charlotte), NC St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary honored St. Vincent s with a visit for Christ the King, providing the celebrant (seminary professor, Fr. Patrick Abbe), ministers, higher-ranking servers and schola for the Solemn Mass. Here the Eucharistic Procession that followed prepares to leave the church. Seen here carrying the monstrance is Fr. Gerard Beck, the First Assistant to the District Superior, who was substituting for the newly-appointed pastor, Fr. Robert MacPherson. The procession travels down 31st Street past scenic Troost Park on its way to the priory just across from the church. The beautiful altar of repose that the Charlotte chapel prepared for momentarily resting the Blessed Sacrament upon during the procession. Taken from St. Vincent de Paul s Priory s 3-storied roof, the procession pauses at the altar of repose prepared on the front lawn. 5 Concluding the procession in the church, the Act of Consecration of the Human Race to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was then publicly made by all. Continued on p.6
processions... continued from p.5 Our Lady of the Rosary St. Anthony of Padua Church, Mt. Holly (Charlotte), NC The group started at the Women s Junior League (where the mission formerly met for many years for Mass) and recited the rosary while processing to St. Patrick s Cathedral where a decade of the rosary was prayed on its front steps. On October 3, the chapel held its annual rosary procession through Charlotte led by Fr. Dominic Bourmaud (in charge of the SSPX s Priests Training Program), also substituting for the pastor, and attended by over 60 faithful. Feast of St. Joseph Jesus and Mary Church, El Paso, TX The parish held an outdoor procession through the city of El Paso complete with a portable shrine (parade float) dedicated to Christ s Foster Father. Seen in cope just ahead of the truck is the pastor and prior, Fr. Jorge Diaz. After the procession, all returned to St. Anthony s in nearby Mt. Holly for Mass and Benediction. Franciscan Sisters: 10th Anniversary Celebration for the founding of the Franciscan Sisters of Christ the King in Kansas City, Missouri Tuesday, February 2 10:00 am Solemn Mass with reception of postulants and blessing of candles and outdoor procession. Luncheon to follow with guest speaker, Fr. Peter Scott For details, please contact St. Vincent de Paul Church s parish secretary, Mrs. Frances Bullock at: ; ext 227. The St. Joseph s Table was held in the St. Joseph s Hall complete with a banquet served by the academy students as seen here. The raffle attracted a standing room only crowd with proceeds going to the academy, while the donated food was given to a local homeless shelter. Convent of Christ the King 1409 E.
