5 Instructions It is customary to pray the Office standing, but for penance it can be prayed kneeling. Alleluia is said at all the Hours throughout the year except from Compline of the day before Ash Day to Compline of the 4th weekday in Holy Week when it is replaced by Praise be to thee, O Lord, King of eternal glory. If you pray the Office alone, recite all the prayers yourself. All prayers without V. or R. are recited together except for the psalms. The verses in the psalms are separated by a space and should be alternately recited by the leader and responders. The leader begins each psalm and always leads the Glory Be. Whenever there is a, bless yourself. For the Opening Prayer for the Offices, make the cross over your lips with your right thumb. For the prayer Convert us, O God during Compline, make the cross over your heart with your right thumb. Leader (V.) and Responders (R.) Unless otherwise designated by V. or R., the leader and responders pray the prayer together. Apostles Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and Confiteor Whenever the Apostles Creed, Our Father, Hail Mary, or Glory Be is said, the leader recites the first part and the responders the second part. The Confiteor is recited together. Apostles Creed V. I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. R. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Our Father V. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. R. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary V. Confiteor I confess to Almighty God, to Blessed Mary ever Virgin, to blessed Michael the Archangel, to blessed John the Baptist, to the holy apostles Peter and Paul, to all the saints, and to you, brethren, that I have sinned exceedingly in thought, word, and deed: (strike breast three times, saying) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I beseech Blessed Mary ever Virgin, blessed Michael the Archangel, blessed John the Baptist, the holy apostles Peter and Paul, all the saints, and you, brethren, to pray to the Lord our God for 5 Prayers after the Divine Office Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that thou art really present in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. I love thee above everything else, and I long to receive thee into my soul. I cannot now receive thee in Holy Communion, but I beg thee to come to me at least spiritually. I embrace thee as already there and unite myself entirely to thee. Grant that I may never be separated from thee! Anima Christi Soul of Christ, sanctify Body of Christ, save Blood of Christ, inebriate Water from the side of Christ, wash Passion of Christ, strengthen O my good Jesus, hear Within thy wounds hide Suffer me not to be separated from thee. From the malignant enemy defend In the hour of death call me and bid me come unto thee so that with thy saints I may praise thee forever and ever. Amen. MLR Ending Prayers I am all thine and all that I have is thine, O most loving Jesus, through Mary, thy most holy Mother. Amen. Most holy and adorable Face of Jesus, have mercy on us and on our suffering brothers in purgatory. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon May they rest in peace. Eternal Father, I offer thee the most adorable Face of thy dearly beloved Son for the honor and glory of thy name, the conversion of sinners, the perseverance of the just, the relief of the suffering souls in purgatory, and the salvation of the dying. Amen. The following prayers are to be said standing. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil

In the following prayer at the words lie in wait for her heel, lift your foot and press your heel into the ground as if to crush Satan with your heel (good Catholics are Mary s heel). Genesis 3:15: I will put enmities between thee and the woman and thy seed and her seed; she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel. His eyes are upon the poor man; he lieth in wait in secret like a lion in his den. He lieth in ambush, that he may catch the poor man, to catch the poor whilst he draweth him to him. In his net he will bring him down; he will crouch and fall when he shall have power over the poor.
