5 Vince Zaprzal Director of Parish Ministries, Religious Education & Facilities Liturgical Renewal Are YOU being called to Liturgical Ministry? As we continue to look at the importance of our liturgy, it only makes sense to look at our liturgical ministries as well. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist with the distribution of Holy Communion. Readers proclaim our scripture readings at Mass. Both of these vital ministries do require training. Throughout the coming week, please pray and concern to see if you are being called to service in either of these ministries. On Saturday, October 27th there will be a gathering for those interested in these two ministries followed by a general meeting with all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Readers. Please see the schedule below. Liturgical Ministry Morning of Renewal Saturday, October 27, a.m. Are you being called to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion or Reader? This hour will be spent with those who are interested in either role of service in liturgical ministry. 10 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Gathering of all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion & Readers During this time, we will spend time in prayer as well as update our ministerial procedures. 11:30 a.m. Blessing and Lunch MUSIC MINISTRIES At Ascension of our Lord Parish, we are gifted with a music ministry of choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists, whose primary goal is to support the active participation of the assembly. Music ministers give of their talent and time to support the assembly in its worship. Don t waste another year thinking: I really should do something. Just do it! JOIN NOW! Choir (open to teen through adult) The choir serves the parish as music ministers for primarily the 10:00a.m. Sunday Mass as well as special liturgies such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. The choral group supports and enhances the assembly s song and sings in a variety of musical styles. Rehearsals are held in Corpus Christi Hall on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 8:30p.m. Join us for some music and fellowship! Contemporary Group (welcomes all ages) The Contemporary Group serves the parish as music ministers once a month at the 4:00p.m. Saturday Mass. A variety of styles of music are sung with a more updated sound combining several instruments and singers. We are seeking an additional bass player, guitarist, and string or woodwind player. Rehearsals are at 3:00p.m for the 4:00p.m. Mass on that day. Instrumentalists All instruments can be used to embellish the music at liturgy. Clarinet, flute, guitar, trumpet, bass, percussion, strings, and any other instrument can add additional color and enhance the environment for worship. If you play an instrument, please know that you can share your gifts in a unique way. You must be accomplished enough to learn the music on your own. Rehearsals are arranged on an individual basis. 6 Around the Diocese and Parish Neighborhood IT S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN SVDP TRUCK DONATIONS ~ NOVEMBER 10 & 11, 2018 ~ Ascension of Our Lord Parking Lot Yes, the St. Vincent de Paul Truck will be on our parish parking lot waiting to receive your clothing and household goods to aid the poor through gifting and the SVDP Thrift Stores. Sort through your belongings and see what you might have ready for us that weekend or before. We will accept.... Clothing, shoes, linens, and books in good or bad conditions. Unusable clothing, shoes, linens and even books generate income for the needy because they are sold for rags or in bulk. NO baby equipment such as cribs, walkers, strollers, playpens, etc. and NO mattresses or cloth furniture where bed bugs might play. ALL BABY CLOTHES ARE ACCEPTED! Small housewares and electronics dishes, glassware, utensils, toasters, blenders, coffee makers, radios, CD players, etc. SORRY NO TELEVISIONS, but small working computers and printers will be accepted. For furniture and large item donations, please call to schedule a home pickup at a later date or E- mail our diocesan SVDP office at saintvincentdonate@gmail.com. AND let s not forget our Veteran s Day Luncheon Celebration on Saturday, November 3, 2018, in Corpus Christi Hall from 11:00 AM 2:00 PM. We are inviting all Veterans and their FAMILIES to allow us to celebrate their service to our country and world. VETERANS DAY OF CELEBRATION Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Abortion and Putting Our Faith into Action In a culture and world that is hungry for the Truth, we are often challenged to put our faith into action. For example, many of our politicians profess their Catholic faith, but try to divorce the faith which they proclaim from their policies, particularly as this relates to LIFE issues. However, as Christ's followers and as Catholics, we are called to integrate our faith into all aspects of our lives. In fact, we are called to make our faith evident in all our actions and decisions. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us not to hide our light under a bushel basket, but let our light shine before others (Mt 5:15-16). Defense of the unborn---the most vulnerable and defenseless human beings in our society, is undoubtedly the most important aspect of integrating our faith and actions. 7 As we gather to remember all of all loved ones who have died, we will remember by name all of those who have had a funeral Mass or a Memorial Mass at Ascension of Our Lord since last year s All Souls Day at the 7pm Mass. All are welcome to attend. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all of the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
